Hansal Mehta

Hansal Mehta applauds Radhikka Madan in Subedaar, says she deserves better roles

Filmmaker Hansal Mehta has showered praise on Suresh Triveni’s newly released action drama Subedaar, calling it a bold and refreshing take on the classic mass entertainer. The film features Anil Kapoor in the lead, alongside Radhika Madan as Shyama, Aditya Rawal as Prince, Mona Singh as Babli Didi, with Faisal Malik and Saurabh Shukla in pivotal roles. Hansal Mehta praises Subedaar Sharing his thoughts after watching the film, Hansal Mehta noted that Triveni revisits the spirit of classic Hindi cinema while giving it a contemporary voice. He said the filmmaker taps into the raw rage and emotional intensity that once defined the ‘angry young man’ era, evoking shades of films like Zanjeer and Deewar.  What impressed him was that such a film comes from Triveni, a director known for tonally different works like Tumhari Sulu and Jalsa. He called it an unexpected but welcome departure from the director’s usual storytelling space. The filmmaker also appreciated Triveni for stepping outside his comfort zone. According to Mehta, the director pays homage to the unapologetic 80s style of filmmaking in his own unique way, combining smart writing with strong performances.  Along with Anil Kapoor, Mehta had special praise for Radhika Madan’s performance in the film. He shared, “Radhikka Madan deserves better than what our cinema has given her so far, better parts, better films, more opportunities. As the feisty but internally wounded daughter, she does not shy away from ugliness in service of her character. That is courage. That is craft.”  With powerful performances and a director willing to experiment beyond his comfort zone, Subedaar is already sparking conversations among cinema lovers. About Subedaar  Subedaar follows the tumultuous journey of Subedaar Arjun Maurya, a retired soldier struggling to find peace in a changing world where the values he once lived by are increasingly challenged. The film shows Anil Kapoor in one of his most compelling performances, fighting against crime and corruption while navigating fractured family ties as he stands by what is right. He takes on a ruthless new adversary, while his strained relationship with his daughter Shyama deepens the emotional stakes. Set in the heartland of India, the film is a cinematic, gritty and intense exploration of honour in the midst of societal decay. The film also stars Saurabh Shukla, Aditya Rawal, Faisal Malik and Mona Singh in pivotal roles. It is currently streaming exclusively on Prime Video.

Sir sensed my hesitation and simply put his arm around me and said, 'Tu tension mat le zara bhi tu kar jo tujhe sahi lagta hai...hum ek baar karenge sahi se karenge ekdam'...That liberated me completely and gave me the confidence to perform that scene. That could only happen because of his experience and generosity." Aditya also recalled what his father, Paresh Rawal, told him while he was going to share the screen space with Anil Kapoor. "He just said that you're going to have the time of your life working with Mr. Anil Kapoor, because the passion that he has will motivate you, and you will get to learn so much from him. Amitt K Singh

Exclusive! Vadh 2's Amitt K Singh about working with Sanjay Mishra, Neena Gupta

Although Vadh 2 was largely praised for Sanjay Mishra and Neena Gupta's performances, another actor who quietly had his share of relevance to the narration was Amitt K Singh, who played the investigating officer, Ateeth Singh. When he sat with mid-day for a candid chat, we asked him about the film, his career and more. Here are some excerpts from the conversation... Amitt K Singh about his career gap When asked about a gap in his career, he says, "I would not say very selective. There was a gap. After Ziddi Dil Maane Na, I could not take any work for almost a year because I lost my dad that year. So, I was not able to focus on work and could not take on any work. And then I got back to Bombay, and I started auditioning." He admits being a little selective, saying, "But yes, I have one thing in mind that I will not do anything. I'll do something which I can relate to. It's always better to wait for the right opportunity rather than do anything just for the heck of it. Instead of doing just anything that does not make you happy. Happiness is the only purpose of life. If you're doing something and it does not make you happy, then you should not do it.  "So I take some time, I look for challenges. That's what I keep in mind. There are several desperate moments where you feel like doing it, but I just wait it out. I think, 'It's okay, if I'm closing this small door, another big door will open for me in the future," he concludes. Amitt K Singh on working with Sanjay Mishra, Neena Gupta Amitt also spoke about working with Neena Gupta and Sanjay Mishra in Vadh 2. He admits, "I was a little concerned that I was going to work with them. They come with so many years of experience. An actor always puts himself in doubt if 'Am I good enough?', a kind of imposter syndrome. But once I met them and started working with them, it was all gone. They made me feel so comfortable. After that, I was really looking forward to starting my shoot and, you know, doing scenes with them." He adds, "Before I had done it, I used to think that it must be very intimidating to work with them. But when you work with good actors, it makes your work so easy.  Earlier, I used to think that it must be very challenging to work with such big actors. But later, I just let myself go with the flow. But once I started talking to them and work with them, my misconceptions vanished that it is easy to work with great actors, it makes your job so easy."
