Way short on thrills

What's it about: Revolving around human emotions and relationships, Right Yaaa Wrong is a story of Ajay (Sunny) and Vinay's (Irrfan) friendship and how it changes after an incident that puts everyone around them in jeopardy. Ajay asks his wife (Eesha) to take his life. Following his decision, there's a courtroom drama that involves Vinay's sister Vidya (Konkona). Strangely, the plot of this film bears a very close resemblance to the 1995 Christopher Reeve film Above Suspicion.u00a0

What's hot: Neeraj Pathak is a good writer and knows how to weave an interesting story around his characters. Despite the sluggishness of the first half, Neeraj creates moments that will generate interest taking the story ahead. The dialogues are old fashioned, but never corny or ridiculously loud. Irrfan and Sunny are honest in their parts. Konkona is sincere.

What's not: Had the film come out a few years back, it would have felt fresh and innovative. The production values and the style of film making seem dated. The court scenes and
the climax, especially, could have been tighter. Eesha doesn't have much to do and is the weakest link among the characters. The intention is to be a taut thriller, but the attempt seems half-baked and weak. Suspense and twists in the story could have been smoother, especially the transition from the first half to the second. There is very little explanation of the sudden twists that happen. Sunny's behaviour and his motives to create a situation where his best friend and wife are questioned is forced and not justified well enough.u00a0u00a0

What to do: It had the makings of an engaging thriller, but it falls way too short of being one.
