Anil Kapoor is in talks to headline ad filmmaker-turned-director Satyajeet Kadam’s action thriller. Interestingly, his role in the actioner will hark back to his roles from the 1990s

Glance through Anil Kapoor’s upcoming movies, and you’ll notice he is relishing exploring different genres at this stage. An actioner like Subedaar shares space in his filmography with the spy thriller Alpha, and a yet-untitled business drama with Hansal Mehta. What’s next for the senior actor? From what we’ve heard, a stylised action film to be directed by Satyajeet Kadam. The reputed ad filmmaker is set to make his Bollywood debut, and for his maiden feature film, he has approached Kapoor, with whom he previously collaborated on a commercial for a leading diagnostic centre.

The action thriller has screenplay and dialogues by Ajit Jagtap, who co-wrote the dialogues for Kajol’s Maa. A source shares, “Satyajeet and Ajit recently gave Anil a narration. The senior actor was excited by the story and how his character drives the plot. He has given his share of inputs and requested them to come back with a revised draft. Though the actor has loved the story, he will give his nod after he reads the reworked draft.”
Through the 1980s and 1990s, Kapoor fronted several action movies that saw him as a morally upright character standing up against the society’s injustice. The protagonist in Kadam’s movie apparently harks back to those characters. The source adds, “When shaping Anil’s character, the director and writer have been inspired by the heroes of his earlier movies. At the same time, they were mindful of making the part age-appropriate. It will be a nostalgia trip for Anil’s fans. Though the action borrows from the over-the-top style seen in South Indian movies, it’s designed keeping in mind the protagonist’s age and persona.”
