Director Aditya Suhas Jambhale’s political thriller 'Article 370' is grabbing a lot of headlines; some are lauding it, while others are calling it out for promoting a certain ideology. Now, in a conversation with, Vaibhav Tatwawadi, who plays the role of Yash Chauhan, an army officer, talked about his character, the idea behind the film, the criticism it is receiving, and much more.

Vaibhav, while talking about how he got the part, shared, “So, I was called for a meeting by two Adityas. The director had seen a few of my plays, and he told me that he had liked my work since then, but we never met after that. So, Director Aditya suggested my name, and after the meeting and the narration, I was totally mesmerized by the vision of the director. Because encapsulating the whole episode is a really challenging thing, and the way he had written the script and the way he had envisioned it, I was amazed by the clarity. After that, it was a no-brainer for me to say yes. Also, Aditya Dabble has two national awards to his name, which is quite an interesting resume for me to say yes.”

Recently, Yami Gautam shared her transformation video, which showed her doing rigorous exercises. When asked about what training Vaibhav has gone through, the actor said, “The credit goes to the ex-army men; they helped us a lot with the physical training and the weapon handling. That helped us a lot to make the character look authentic on screen. I think as an actor, there are always two aspects to a character: a physical aspect and a mental aspect. So, the physical aspect was taken care of by the ex-army men. Talking with them, I also kind of understood the operations they have been a part of. That helped me portray Yash Chauhan. I didn't expect this response; I knew people would like my character and the movie, but this response is just mind-boggling.”

If you have watched the film, you must be aware that Vaibhav’s character meets a tragic end. While talking about the relatively smaller part, the actor shared, “I feel the impact is more, and again, the way people look at it is as a male protagonist. That is how Yash Chauhan has been portrayed, and kudos to Aditya. Aditya was very clear that Vaibhav, you will be terribly missed in the second half, and people will love you in the first half.”

A lot of people are calling out 'Article 370' for promoting a certain ideology. Addressing the criticism, Vaibhav remarked, “When you are in the public domain, you should be open to criticism. When your project is in the public domain, some people might like you, some might dislike you, and some will not have an opinion about you. I feel it's part and parcel, and you should have the acceptance. I think the love I have received is overwhelming. While some couldn't relate to it, it should be accepted in the same way.”

Further, when asked if he ever feared working on a film of this trajectory, the actor said, “Without Article 370, the history of the country will be incomplete; this is an integral part of our history. One thing is very clear there is no fixed narrative; it is just facts that have happened, and now it's on people what they want to take with them. So, it's very clear to the director that it is a portrayal of facts, so I didn't have any problem in that way.”

Vaibhav has worked on films in the Marathi industry. While talking about the switch in language, he said, “There's no switch; it's just the script. Which script I like, I say yes to it. It's never a conscious decision; it's just that India as a country has different languages, and each state has its own industry, so it's the best time for actors who know different languages to be in the industry.”

To note, the  Yami Gautam starrer looks at the events around the 2019 abrogation of Article 370, which granted special status to Jammu & Kashmir in terms of autonomy.
