True Story Films, which Hansal Mehta launched with Sahil Saigal in January 2025, is building a diverse slate spanning Hindi films, regional cinema and unscripted content

Filmmaker Hansal Mehta is betting big on genre storytelling with Pralay, a post-apocalyptic zombie survival thriller starring Ranveer Singh that anchors the expanding slate of his production banner True Story Films.
Directed by Jai Mehta and produced in collaboration with Singh’s banner Maa Kasam Films, Pralay is envisioned as one of the most ambitious genre projects attempted in Indian cinema. Mehta describes the film as “a film unlike anything India has attempted before.”
About Pralay
A source had earlier revealed that Pralay would go on floors sometime between July and August 2026.
Mounted on an estimated Rs 300 crore budget, it marks Ranveer Singh's most expensive standalone project. A source told Pinkvilla, “Ranveer has entered into a backend profit-sharing deal and is involved in every stage, from script development to VFX planning.”
Pralay reportedly follows Ranveer Singh's fight for survival, with Mehta using the zombie framework to explore social, emotional, and moral collapse. It is said to reimagine Mumbai in The Hunger Games’ style set-up.
Insiders said the makers are planning to recreate a devastated Mumbai, blending physical sets with artificial intelligence (AI) extensions. The source elaborated, “Large sections of the city will be digitally aged, to give it an abandoned look. Parts of the film will be shot in Mumbai, before moving to other locations.”
True Story Films' Upcoming Projects
True Story Films, which Mehta launched with producer Sahil Saigal in January 2025, is rapidly building a diverse slate spanning Hindi films, regional cinema and unscripted content.
Alongside Pralay, Mehta is also directing Porbandar, an action drama set in the birthplace of Mahatma Gandhi. The film is conceived as a gritty and violent narrative that stands in stark contrast to Gandhi’s legacy.
Currently in production is Dilkashi, a romantic musical marking the Hindi debut of acclaimed filmmaker Lijo Jose Pellissery. The project is being produced with Amazon MGM Studios and features music by Oscar-winning composer A. R. Rahman. Mehta describes it as “a love story told in Pellissery’s distinctive cinematic style.”
The banner’s growing lineup also includes Kehar Singh, directed by Ajitpal Singh, and the cannibalistic horror film Mehfooz, which has completed development.
In regional cinema, the company is backing the Gujarati film Sardar Asardar, based on Indian statesman Vallabhbhai Patel, as well as the Punjabi indie Hanere de Panchi, directed by Shashank Walia.
Beyond films, True Story Films is also co-producing Family Business with Abundantia Entertainment and backing Shonali Bose’s Tongues of the Tree, starring Pratik Gandhi. The company is also developing Rasooi, an AI-powered food series.
Saigal says the company aims to function as a boutique studio focused on backing projects that excite its creators. Mehta adds that in today’s environment, bold storytelling is essential, emphasizing that “audacity wins.”
