Actor Huma Qureshi, known for her strong and layered performances, recently opened up about her experience working on Jolly LLB 2 and how her role in the Akshay Kumar-starrer was significantly reduced during editing. Speaking on mid-day’s Sit With Hitlist, Huma shared that while the film marked her first collaboration with director Subhash Kapoor, the final cut left her feeling disappointed.

Huma Qureshi was discussing a possible theory on why Subhash Kapoor might have cast her in Maharani, which is currently in its fourth season.  “Our first collaboration was on Jolly LLB 2. It was not a very big part, but during the edit, my role became even smaller,” Huma revealed. “I remember being really upset about it and saying, ‘I’m not doing anything in this film.’”

The actor shared that Kapoor tried to cheer her up, often sending her messages about how audiences had loved her character, Pushpa Pandey. “He would keep sending me messages saying people love the fact that she’s an alcoholic or whatever, just trying to make me feel better,” she recalled with a smile.

Scene in trailer but not in film

However, Huma admitted that the experience was creatively frustrating, especially because one of her most powerful scenes never made it to the final version. “There was a very strong scene that was there in the trailer but never made it to the film, in which I scream at Akshay sir’s character and show him the right path,” she said. “That never made it to the final film.”

Reflecting on the situation, Huma added that while she understands such changes are part of filmmaking, it was still hard to accept. “Sometimes, some of your best scenes get cut out. No one really plans it, but it happens. I was very upset that I didn’t really have an arc,” she said. “I detest from my core playing ornamental parts, and that’s what it ended up becoming. But sometimes there’s nothing you can do.”

Huma’s candour is a reminder of how even seasoned actors face creative disappointments, yet continue to move forward.
