Saiyaara, marking the debut of Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, is storming the box office. The romantic drama, directed by Mohit Suri, has raked in a whooping Rs 250 crores so far. Along with Saiyaara, Tanvi The Great and Nikita Roy also released in theatres and due to the onslaught of romantic film, the other films tanked. Nikita Roy director Kussh Sinha has now reacted to the situation.

Kussh Sinha blames Saiyaara for Nikita Roy's failure

In a recent interview with Dainik Bhaskar, Kussh Sinha addressed the disappointing performance of Nikita Roy and shared, “We tried to get more screens, but sometimes, some films are swept along by a wave. At the same time, whichever theatre chains we’ve spoke to, they’ve seen the merit in the film and they’ve held on to it. Three films were released on the same day, and while everybody knows about the film that performed so well, the other film lost theatres.”

Without naming Saiyaara, he acknowledged the success and congratulated the newcomers. “No one could have predicted such a strong wave. I’m happy that a romantic film led by two newcomers has done so well. Hats off to YRF, and I congratulate them,” he said. However, he also admitted that the marketing and promotional strategy for Nikita Roy could have been better.  “Other stakeholders in the film could’ve done things differently to anticipate Saiyaara and to promote Nikita Roy more forcefully.”

He also took a subtle dig at Mohit Suri’s film being a copy and said, “The best thing is that it is an entirely original film, we haven’t plagiarised content from anywhere. There have been discussions, but that is for them to answer. It’s up to them to clear their names. If they have to clarify, that’s their responsibility. As for me, I’ve always believed in telling original stories. If I ever remake something, it will be done officially. Not everyone sees it that way, but that’s their choice.”
