As soon as Laxmi noticed Mamta, she pushed her hand down, signalling her to stand straight. Mamta is seen wearing an orange kurta and pallazo paired with a yellow scarf containing religious inscriptions.

Mamta Kulkarni's Mahamandaleshwar controversy

During the Mahakumbh 2025 festival, Mamta Kulkarni was announced as the Mahamandaleshwar of the Kinnar Akhada by Acharya Mahamandleshwar Laxmi Narayan. With the new title and a new name as 'Shree Yamai Mamta Nand Giri', the former actress embarked on a spiritual role. However, the appointment did not sit well with many, who questioned her appointment, leading to massive backlash towards Mamta.

Speaking to ANI, she said, "...It was all in God's hands for me to become Mahamandaleshwar in that Kumbh, which was such a holy occasion in 140 years. God provided me with the fruits of 25 years of my 'tapasya'. So, that happened."

However, later on January 31, 2025, Rishi Ajay Das, the founder of Kinnar Akhada, expelled both Mamta Kulkarni and Acharya Mahamandaleshwar Lakshmi Narayan Tripathi from their respective positions as well as the Akhada. The decision came following the backlash and her controversial past. He noted that Lakshmi had allegedly appointed Kulkarni without the founder's consent. A couple of days later, Mamta announced on social media that she is resigning from the position after facing heavy backlash and internal disputes.

A few days later, she again rejoined the Akhada, saying that her guru did not accept her resignation. She added, :I am grateful to my guru for reinstating me. Moving forward, I dedicate my life to Kinnar Akhada and Sanatan Dharma."
