Arbaaz Khan

In this interview with mid-day the talks about his birthday plans,  how lockdown has changed his perspective towards life, the way his career has shaped up so far and his experience of working on Rosie The Saffron Chapter

You turn 54 today.  What are you doing for this birthday?

I will be at my dad's place along with my family members. I am not having a big party but I am going to spend some time with my family. Some of my friends and colleagues from the industry are going to drop by. We are just going to spend a nice evening together. Once the Covid situation is better, I will probably have a big bash. If it isn't possible this year, then I'll celebrate it next year.

How has the last year changed your perspective towards life?

Last year was a challenging time for everyone. We all faced challenges and had to adjust in our daily lives. We all learnt and discovered a lot of things. Most of us reconnected with friends and family members who we had lost touch with. As far as work is concerned, for some it was a welcome break but for most, the livelihoods were affected. It has been a tough year for all of us. Fortunately, I used my time well by resting out, I started reading and caught up on a lot of movies and web-series. It also allowed me to spend time with my family. At the same time, what was happening around was disturbing and so I tried my best to help those who were in need. Slowly, things are getting better and I hope soon that things come back to normal.

At this stage of your career, what are the things that you are looking to achieve?

I started my career as an actor and made a transition of becoming a producer and later on a director. I am now a talk show host. I keep on doing a lot of things that keep challenging me and inspire me to do new things. I enjoy all the things that I do. I am an actor first, so when someone approaches me with a good role, I jump to it. I also like being behind the scenes. As a filmmaker, I have achieved more than I did as an actor. Currently I am really enjoying being a talk show host. The first season of Pinch was a success and the second season has also been doing well. I'll keep pushing myself to do better work."

Tell us about your experience of working on Rosie The Saffron Chapter.

The experience of working on Rosie The Saffron Chapter has been nice and interesting. The concept is different and is based on real life incidents and has been dramatised for the screen. We have a component team in terms of writer, director and Prerna V Arora who has been like the captain of the ship and doing her creative bit as a producer. She is doing every bit to provide everything and make this a wonderful movie. I can see some talented and hard working people on the sets. The atmosphere is lovely. It's always nice to work in a conducive environment. When the film comes out it will turn a lot of heads and people notice the kind of  hard work that has happened. We are expecting to receive a lot of accolades and so I am hoping what we are feeling now translated to the screen as well.

Tell us about your association with the team.

My association with Prerna and Reshabh has been fantastic. I have known Prerna for a long time. I was first introduced to her on a film set where she was working as an assistant director and subsequently we have been in touch and have been following each other's careers.  I could see she finally grew to be a very dedicated and competent filmmaker where she made some very successful films so working with her was a wonderful opportunity. On the other hand, Reshabh is a man who has a focus to make good cinema. He is an affable guy who pays attention towards the entire cast and crew
