Nicole Kidman: ‘I’d be a terrible director’

When Nicole Kidman was honoured with the AFI (American Film Institute) Life Achievement Award recently, she spent a considerable portion of her speech thanking the directors she has worked with over the years. However, the respect for the job does  not mean she has any desire to step behind the camera herself. “I feel like I would be a terrible director because I always have so many ideas. A director has to make choices, and that’s not my strong suit,” Kidman told an international publication during the AFI red carpet, noting that a producer’s duties much more align with her interests. She elaborated, “I am good at being passionate and supporting the voices, reading a script and going, ‘I love this script,’ or seeing somebody and going, ‘I love this actor, I love this director, how do I support them?’ And they may have done nothing [before], but I want to get behind them. That’s what I love doing; it excites me, and it really makes me happy. I love shining the light on other people or helping to do that.” The Spellbound actor has produced multiple projects like Big Little Lies (2017), The Undoing (2020), Nine Perfect Strangers (2021),  Love & Death, Special Ops: Lioness (2023) and Expats (2024) through her production house, Blossom Films. Inside the tribute event at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, she expressed her desire to shine a light on others, saying, “There’s so many more exciting young directors and voices that are completely original and need to be heard, and they have a lot to say. We need to give them a chance to say it and to hear them, and I am here, I am ready to roll up my sleeves. I am here always to support those voices.” Kidman also named all of her previous directors and thanked them individually during her acceptance speech. Sound check: Snap review of new music

King, Jason Derulo’s songWorth your time: Yes The influence of Indian music, and Indian musicians is becoming increasingly prominent, as is evident in the spate of notable collaborations we’ve seen in the recent past. The most prominent one among them is inarguably King’s latest release,  Bumpa, which sees him join hands with American singer-songwriter Jason Derulo. Derulo, whose resume is peppered with global hits like It girl, Marry me, and Ridin’ solo, adds his signature melodic beats to Bumpa, an offering that visually resembles his suggestive previous numbers.  The dance number ticks all the boxes when it comes to the making of a catchy song. Derulo even packs in his signature moves while rendering his English verses. However, at a time when the industry is becoming increasingly aware not to objectify women, King’s track appears to be a step in the wrong direction. Today in music April 29, 1997: Boy George was accused of being a ‘professional liar’ by Kirk Brandon at a court hearing. Brandon was suing him over claims in his autobiography that the pair had slept together On top of my playlist: Yash Narvekar Bas ek pal: I think this was the first time that a sad, romantic track was arranged in such an experimental and beautiful way. Coupled with KK’s vocals, this was the complete package.  Dilbar mere: The melody, arrangement, and lyrics were different and fresh when compared to the other tracks that were released around that time. This song stood the test of time. Kishore da [Kumar] has been an all-time favourite. Kaisi hai yeh rut: Dil Chahta Hai was a game-changer. It changed how people perceived filmmaking and film music. The album has songs [of all] genres.  Maula mere:I have been a fan of Mithoon since I heard this track. The production in this album is amazing. Muqabla: This song will always remain close to my heart. It is the ultimate party number.

Zendaya talks about reviving her music career, says, "maybe one day"

Actor and singer Zendaya has not ruled out the possibility of reviving her music career eventually. The 'Challengers' star recently appeared on The Jennifer Hudson Show and was asked about her previous music releases, according to The Hollywood Reporter. "I love music, and it's something that's been special to me," said Zendaya. "I think being in the music industry, maybe it didn't kill the joy of music, but it's when you put music and business together. Sometimes it cannot feel so good." Zendaya released her debut self-titled album in 2013, which included the breakthrough track 'Replay'. And, while she has prioritised her acting career above music in recent years, she hinted that if the "right timing" comes, she may release something again. "You know, I think if the right timing and it came, because I like creating it for myself, but if there was a moment, maybe I would, you know, put out a little something," the Euphoria actress said before reminding fans: "Don't get crazy! We'll see, but maybe one day." Though she hasn't recorded any new music in several years, she has collaborated on tunes with other musicians, notably Labrinth, who scored the smash HBO drama 'Euphoria'. In addition to her conversation with Hudson, Zendaya discussed her surprise presence during Labrinth's set at Coachella last year to sing renditions of "I'm Tired" and "All For Us." The 'Dune: Part Two' star called the musician "so talented" and a "wonderful person," but revealed that she initially turned down his offer to perform at the music festival. "He asked me if I wanted to come out and perform and immediately I was like 'Oh, absolutely not.' I was like, 'I can't do that,'" Zendaya recalled, noting that she had too much "stage fright." "I have bad memories of performing live when I was a kid," she explained, but added that she eventually convinced herself to do it, saying she "can't run from this forever." Coachella ended up marking Zendaya's first live performance in more than seven years, as per The Hollywood Reporter. This story has been sourced from a third party syndicated feed, agencies. Beyonce to perform at MTV Video Music Awards after 8-year hiatus

Singer-songwriter Beyonce is set to perform at the upcoming edition of MTV Video Music Awards to mark its 40th anniversary this September. This is the first time since 2016 when the 'Cowboy Carter' hitmaker will grace its stage, reports 'Mirror.co.uk'. Back in 2016, she won eight trophies, and performed a 16-minute Lemonade medley. Even having earned VMA nominations in 2018, 2020 and 2021, the 42-year-old still didn't grace the show with an appearance and skipped last year to tour with Renaissance. "Beyonce is a huge get for the VMAs and will be a huge ratings draw," a source said. "She is currently figuring out how her appearance will look and whether it will be one song or a tribute similar to her 2014 closing performance when she received the prestigious Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award." The source continued: "As it's such a big year, the ceremony wants to reclaim some of its prestige so reality TV stars from some of the more lowbrow shows and TikTok will have had a harder time gaining entry while artists like Dua Lipa, Muni Long and Billie Eilish will be given priority treatment." "They are also hoping to book Taylor Swift," they added. This story has been sourced from a third party syndicated feed, agencies.
