While her co-stars Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman and John Malkovich are known for their amazing action sequences, this is the veteran actress' first such outing. She tells Tushar Joshi why she took up the challenge.

Why do you think comic book characters are such a creative basis for film and TV?
Comic book characters remind viewers of their growing up days and hence, audiences are able to identify with these characters. Most kids grow up reading comic books. It is d ufffdj vu to see the same character, larger than life, portrayed on film and TV. The use of comic book characters, as a strategy, has been successful in the past. I am sure this would also be the case for Red.

Was it fun to be an action star and did you learn anything from Bruce? Did you have fun together?
As an artist, I have portrayed diverse characters in my career. On one hand, I have played a Queen while on the other hand, I have also played a humble cleaner. Working with Bruce Willis was thrilling. I'm excited to have worked in a Bruce Willis movie. It was fantastic to play something completely different. I felt honoured for being offered this role. As expected, it turned out to be a fun ride.

At this stage in your career and your life, is there anything that still scares you?
No, nothing scares me.

What skills did you have to learn for Red?
I underwent training on how to handle a gun. That was interesting!

The A-Team and the Expendables had the concept of putting together older actors in an action film. Isn't that the same with Red?
Red is a movie that has everything from action, comedy to drama. It has all the elements that cinemagoers like to watch, which makes it a highly watched film.

Red is due to hit theatres in India on November 12, 2010.
