Ryan Gosling, who plays the lead in the sequel to Blade Runner (1982), says the new film will be bleaker than the Ridley Scott-directed original. Scott presented a chaotic dystopian world in his groundbreaking sci-fi movie and the sequel, 2049, coming after a gap of 35 years, will take the story forward.

Gosling teased the story at CinemaCon, reported Entertainment Weekly. "It's a continuation of the story, so it takes the original story and sort of follows that through. It's the same iconic universe, but it has changed over the course of the 30-year gap. It's a lot bleaker in some ways," he said, adding that the director, Denis Villeneuve, describes it as toxic.

Gosling praised co-star Harrison Ford, who is reprising one of his signature roles as the world-weary cop Rick Deckard. "He came in, rolled up his sleeves andjust got to work. He was such a great partner to all of us, and such a great actor."
