Reynolds will star as the Green Lantern in the upcoming Warner Bros' live-action film based on the DC Comics hero, reports Variety.
Actor Bradley Cooper and music star Justin Timberlake also did a screen test for the role of the superhero armed with a magical ring.
The film will be headed by Casino Royale director Martin Campbell and starts production in January.
Incidentally, a spinoff movie for Reynold's Wolverine character Deadpool is also in development.
