British heavy-metal icon Ozzy Osbourne has passed away in the UK. Best known for his dark stage persona and as iconic role as lead singer of Black Sabbath, Ozzy leaves behind a legacy in metal music that will be long remembered. Notably, the singer died on Tuesday at the age of 76, just weeks after he performed his farewell show.

Ozzy had been struggling with health issues in recent years. In 2020, he revealed he was suffering from Parkinson's disease, which he revealed in 2020. Confirming the news of the legend's passing away, his family issued a statement, which read, "It is with more sadness than words can express that we share the news of Ozzy Osbourne's passing this morning. He was surrounded by his family and love. We request privacy during this difficult time."

As frontman of the metal band Black Sabbath, Ozzy Osbourne has been credited with inventing heavy metal, thanks to songs like Iron Man and Paranoid. Interestingly, less than three weeks ago, the self-styled Prince of Darkness performed a farewell concert in his hometown, which he called his final one. It was supported by many of the musicians he had inspired, including Metallica and Guns ‘n’ Roses.
Tributes pour in
As soon as the news of his death broke, tributes began pouring in for the legend. While the people in the UK observed silences in his honour and laid flowers in his name, many celebrities, his bandmembers and many from the metal scene expressed their grief. Bandmate Terence 'Geezer' Butler shared that he is “so glad” he was able to perform a final time with Ozzy Osbourne, referring to the band's reunion on July 5 at Villa Park in Birmingham.
In his social media post, Butler writes: “Goodbye dear friend – thanks for all those years- we had some great fun. Four kids from Aston- who’d have thought, eh? So glad we got to do it one last time, back in Aston. Love you.”

Black Sabbath co-founder Tony Iommi also penned his tribute saying, "I just can’t believe it! My dear dear friend Ozzy has passed away only weeks after our show at Villa Park". He added how Ozzy's death is "such heartbreaking news that I can’t really find the words... Geezer (Butler), Bill (Ward) and myself have lost our brother. My thoughts go out to Sharon and all the Osbourne family. Rest in peace Oz. Tony. There won’t ever be another like him."
Legendary singer Elton John expressed that he was "so sad to hear the news" of Osbourne's death. Taking to Instagram, he wrote, "He was a dear friend and a huge trailblazer who secured his place in the pantheon of rock gods - a true legend. He was also one of the funniest people I’ve ever met. I will miss him dearly. To Sharon and the family, I send my condolences and love."
Ozzy's band Black Sabbath also posted a photograph of Osbourne from his farewell gig on 5 July. The caption reads "Ozzy Forever."
Meanwhile, Metallica membersalso remembered Ozzy and wrote, "It’s impossible to put into words what Ozzy Osbourne has meant to Metallica. Hero, icon, pioneer, inspiration, mentor, and, most of all, friend are a few that come to mind," band members Noah Abrams and Ross Halfin wrote on X. "Ozzy and Sharon believed in us and transformed our lives and careers," they added.
The Instagram account for AC/DC also posted a tribute to Ozzy, which read, "So sad! A great loss to all that loved him." Ozzy Osbourne is survived by his wife Sharon Osbourne and six children, three from each of his two marriages.
