Chinmayi Sripada, a singer-dubbing artist, was blackmailed with a modified nude photo of herself on Wednesday evening. The actor took the matter to the Commissioner of Hyderabad City Police, VC Sajjanar, on social media and posted a video about being regularly threatened online in recent weeks.

Chinmayi stated that her husband, filmmaker-actor Rahul Ravindran, remarked on the mangalasutra a few weeks ago. Since then, she claims that the trolling against her and her family has grown. Posting the morphed picture and the video on social media, Chinmayi wrote, “I got a morphed image from a page today and tagged the cops - whether legal action happens will happen or not is not the issue.”

She further stated in the video, “I have been abused, my children have been given death threats, I have filed a police complaint against a few on the Twitter Spaces who said that the kind of women they don’t like shouldn’t ever have children, and if they do, their children must die. There were men applauding and laughing at this.”

Chinmayi also opened up about often being targeted online ever since she had been vocal about facing harassment from a renowned lyricist. “A lot of people have abused me; they have been paid for by political groups. There was a particular Tweet today that shared a morphed photo of me in the nude. I am sharing so women know these kinds of things happen, men do this to push us out of public spaces,” she said.

Chinmayi Sripada once spoke about harassment

Pointing out how the rise of deepfakes and AI will mean that more women will face this from males who may disagree with them or wish to exact revenge on them, the singer took a stand and declared, "I am not the kind of woman who is ashamed by this." She also encouraged women, girls, and parents to pursue legal action if they found themselves in a similar circumstance.

Chinmayi was one of the most outspoken supporters of the Me Too movement. In 2018, she charged songwriter Vairamuthu with sexual harassment. She also backed up other people's charges against musicians like OS Thyagarajan, Raghu Dixit, and Karthik. Following her charges, Radha Ravi, the head of the Tamil Film Dubbing Union, revoked her membership due to non-payment of fees. The case is presently in court.
