Popular Marathi film actress Jyoti Chandekar, passed away at the age of 69 after a long illness. While the exact cause of her death is unknown, the actress was reportedly suffering from age-related ailments. Few days back, she was even hospitalised in Pune where she was undergoing treatment. Her daughter and actress Tejaswini Pandit has shared an update about her last rites.
Jyoti Chandekar passes away
She was best known for her role as Poorna Aji in the popular serial Tharala Tar Mag. In 2024, while shooting for the show, the veteran actress fell ill on set due to low sodium levels. She was hospitalised and had to take a break of nearly two months before returning. Her daughter Tejaswini even revealed that she underwent a gall-bladder surgery that time.
Star Pravah, the channel airing Tharala Tar Mag, paid tribute to the late actress through its official social media handle with a post in Marathi: “Heartfelt tribute to everyone’s beloved Purna grandmother i.e. senior actress Jyoti Chandekar."

Tejaswini Pandit shares last rites details
Jyoti Chandekar’s daughter, actress Tejaswini Pandit, is also a prominent figure in the Marathi industry. She took to her social media handle to give an update on when the funeral rites of her departed mom will take place.
The note read, "Greetings, It is with deep sorrow that we inform you that our beloved mother, who always lived with a cheerful heart and a smiling face, and everyone’s dearest senior actress Mrs. Jyoti Chandekar Pandit, has passed away today, 16th August, at the age of 69 after a brief illness. Her last rites will be held tomorrow, 17th August, at 11:00 a.m. at Vaikunth Crematorium, Navi Peth, Pune. In grief: Tejaswini Pandit, Poornima Pandit, and the entire Chandekar-Pandit family."
