Rajinikanth's Jailer has a fanbase of its own, and since Jailer 2 was announced, the fans have been eagerly awaiting even the smallest update from the film. As per the latest updates, actress Vidya Balan will reportedly be sharing the screen with Rajinikanth in the movie. Additionally, the film has reportedly completed more than half of its shoot.

According to a Hindustan Times report, a reliable source from the production told them, “Vidya plays the role of (actor) Mithun Chakraborty’s eldest daughter. Mithun is the leading antagonist in the film and will be seen alongside (actor) Rajinikanth sir.” The source further shared, “The film is currently being shot in Chennai and will move into post-production by January.” Following the Chennai schedule, the team will reportedly move to Goa for the remaining two months of shooting beginning late October.
If the reports are to be believed, it will mark Vidya's full-fledged Tamil debut after a brief appearance in Nerkonda Paarvai (2019). Talking of Jailer 2, the makers of the film directed by Nelson Dilipkumar are reportedly aiming for an August 2026 release. Meanwhile, a representative from the film shared, “It’s too early to say anything" about Vidya being a part of the film.

Jailer 2 is an action comedy film written and directed by Nelson Dilipkumar. It serves as a sequel to Rajinikanth's 2023 hit and is produced by Kalanithi Maran under Sun Pictures. It stars Rajinikanth reprising his role as the titular character, alongside Ramya Krishnan, Yogi Babu and Mirnaa, who will also reprise their roles, with S. J. Suryah, joining the cast. Shiva Rajkumar, Nandamuri Balakrishna and Mithun Chakraborty are expected to make cameo appearances, with the former reprising his role.
The much-awaited sequel will hit the theatres on June 12, 2026. Earlier this week, on October 20, exciting new clips from Rajinikanth’s upcoming film Jailer 2 surfaced on the internet and went viral. The videos included thrilling action sequences, candid team conversations, and glimpses of fun behind-the-scenes moments.
