Titanic movie’s debated door sells for over Rs 5 crore at auction

The slab of driftwood that got fans of Titanic debating whether it could have saved Jack (Leonardo DiCaprio) from drowning or not, has been sold at an auction for more than $700,000. It is the same floating panel of wood that Jack used to save Rose DeWitt Bukater (Kate Winslet) from icy North Atlantic waters after the ocean liner sank.   It was atop the panel (often mistaken for a door) that Rose made a promise to Jack of never letting go before she clung on for her life as she watched her frozen Jack sink into the ocean while she made it out safe. The press released issues by Heritage Auctions states, "Often mistakenly referred to as a door, the ornate structure was in reality part of the door frame just above the first-class lounge entrance."  Also Read: Shelf-Life with Mid-day: Despite internet impact on business, book lovers stay true to traditional reading experiences This famous, life-saving piece of prop has previously been displayed at a Planet Hollywood in Orlando, Florida before it was stored in their archives for over two decades, reports CNN. The driftwood piece was sold alongside other props at the ‘Treasures From Planet Hollywood’ auction, which included memorabilia items once displayed at Planet Hollywood locations across the world. These included items such as the bullwhip from "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom" and the ax from "The Shining." However, the ‘Titanic’ flotsam beat the rest of the items, emerging as the highest-priced piece, exceeding its starting price of $40,000 and fetching a total of $718,750 in a rather high-energy bidding war. Many other props from ‘Titanic’ were also put on sale. This included the pastel chiffon evening gown Rose wore in the movie the night the ship sank and the ship's helm wheel, which fetched $118,750 and $200,000 respectively. Heritage Auctions handles a wide array of big-ticket collectables. In a statement, it said, the Treasures From Planet Hollywood event witnessed the most successful auction of cinema props, attracting a total of $15.68 million. Additionally, it stated that the event also ranks among the most profitable auctions of Hollywood memorabilia in the history of this industry. Mid-Day Premium Why Mumbai pianists love playing in public spaces like hotels and malls

Every Sunday afternoon, Bonita Deniz sits at the piano in Taj Land’s End lobby from 3:30 pm – 6:30 pm in Bandra to play her heart out as she interacts with the crowd by smiling at them. She shares, “Very often, the piano is perceived as an instrument for classical pieces but performing at hotels and other venues for local audiences has made the piano an instrument for pop pieces.” Even though she plays there for just one day, it is worth her while because of the joy that her music brings to the faces of children, adults, and the elderly too. While the Mumbaikar juggles between being a piano teacher in various avenues in Mumbai, this is the cherry on the cake for Deniz, who comes from a family of musicians in Mumbai and Goa. Every year, World Piano Day is observed on March 29 around the globe to celebrate the instrument and those who play it. It is celebrated on the 88th day of the year to denote the 88 keys on the instrument. Over the years, Mumbai has boasted of many talented pianists and while people look in awe at the ones who perform on stage, many others perform in public places like hotels and malls and also play for a live audience but one that is interactive and is completely mesmerized with music as they not only play classical pieces but also pop songs that can be sung, danced and grooved to without a care in the world. “The pop pieces are opening doors to people who are not exposed to pianos, and it is a positive thing. It is fun when people come and ask you and you play by ear,” adds 30-year-old Deniz, who started by playing the keyboard more than 20 years ago. Falling in love with the pianoAfter being introduced to the musical instrument at the age of six, Deniz practiced and perfected her craft by playing at every chance she could get including the church choir. It is where many from the Catholic community are first introduced to the art of playing instruments and singing or simply getting better at it, as they regularly sing and play the hymns. Beyond that, it is their interest that paves the way to showcase their love for the instrument. Apart from the church choir, the Mumbaikar from Malad took it a step further and professionally joined Mumbai’s famed Newman choir, and even took up roles as a music director and teacher in various institutions in the city. She explains, “I decided to freelance a bit because the pandemic had affected my mental health. I took the time to study for my master’s in music. So, while I was teaching privately, I wanted to start gigging, which I used to do in college, but it was difficult to get gigs that would allow you to sing and play. I had to get to know new people in the market.” Deniz took it upon herself to get back into the scene and landed a gig after going through the grind of a freelance musician trying to play at reputed city hotels, as she notes it becomes easier with the help of an agency. “The first gig I got was a cover gig to replace somebody who said they couldn’t be there,” says the city-based pianist, continuing, “I took the opportunity. Then two months later, I started by getting one day to myself at Taj Land’s End. Earlier, I used to do Tuesdays and Sundays but now I only play on Sundays.” Along the way, she has had the likes of West Indies cricketer Chris Gayle come up to request her to play ‘Blinding Lights’ by the Weeknd, and even celebrity nutritionist Luke Coutinho who interacted with her after a performance. Fulfilling her wish to play live in 2021, Deniz has gone back to teaching children full-time, as she gets the opportunity to enjoy the best of both worlds. Since she is a freelance pianist, she has also played at the Taj Mahal Palace and Jolie’s, a private club in Worli. In all this time that she has performed in public places, the Mumbaikar says she has seen people react in different ways to her music. “Laymen are coming and dancing with their babies, little children coming and wanting to play, and then other children coming to me saying they want to learn how to play,” she shares. Playing for the peopleLike Deniz, even 20-year-old Alstan Remedios has had interesting experiences as not only guests who have reacted to his music but also in-house staff, who have paused from their daily routine and found solace in his mesmerizing tunes. “I was once playing in ITC Grand Central in Parel. So, while we were setting up for the stage, I was busy jamming with my friend Mark, who was on the guitar, with my eyes closed. When I opened my eyes, I saw about 10 of them (the staff) watching me play at the reception desk and enjoying it.” Also Read: Despite hardships, Gateway of India photographers choose to capture smiles due to sheer love for Mumbai Having the ability to hold the attention of the audience, every once in a while, Remedios takes the opportunity to slip in a tune of his own and add a twist to a popular song only because he loves playing for an interactive audience. “If I see a parent with a child, and a Christmas Carol is going on, I try to add Jingle Bells or Mario theme to make it quirky. Many people come up and give suggestions too. During the Christmas season, people tell me to play a lot of Mariah Carey songs from her Christmas album and that is the fun part because you get to engage with the audience. If I don’t know the song, then the choir plays, and I follow,” he adds.   Interestingly, playing the piano has been a learning experience for Remedios, who was first introduced to the instrument as a child. While his dad used to play tunes on the guitar, he tried playing the instrument but never took to it. Instead, the keys of the keyboard lying around in his house attracted him more. “By ear, I could figure out tunes, and those were usually hymns and just by memory I could relate to that. After taking a few trinity exams, I started looking for opportunities and used to play in the church and continue to do so.” It did not take long for his conductor Sonal Pinto to encourage him to join the Stop Gaps, and then he also played at the NCPA. Born in the internet age, the Mumbaikar soon started putting his music out into the world and was scouted because of his talent. “I was scouted through my YouTube channel, Alstan Remedios Music, by a conductor from Borivali named Alan Rodrigues, who asked me to join his choir. As he performs during the Christmas season with his choir at these hotels, I have got the opportunity to perform with him.” Since 2021, Remedios also played at hotels in Mumbai like JW Marriott Mumbai, apart from ITC Grand Central, while also working on music for films. Also Read: How Mumbai’s road queens blaze trails with biking adventures Understandably, playing in a public place has taught him a lot already, and he is humble to admit it even as he has achieved so much in the last four years since he has been professionally playing the piano. “You cannot brag about your music in a public place. You have to suit the audience because they come there to get the vibe, enjoy and have a good time. My favourite tunes to play are jazz, so I like to ‘jazzify’ Christmas songs or other songs. Improvising on the spot keeps the audience’s foot tapping too,” shares Remedios. It is a stark difference from the stage, says the Mumbaikar, which is where most people see a person playing the piano. “When you go to performance spaces and perform, it becomes very musically professional, technical and mechanical but in places like these, if you develop the art, you know how to talk to the audience through your music,” shares pianist, who hopes to play in Oberoi and Palladium malls in the future.  Challenges of playing in a public placeEven as Remedios wants to play in the malls, Shanice Ferreira dreams of playing at Bandra Bandstand one day. Even though it isn’t the ideal location for the piano, the sunset and being by the water make it perfect. Apart from corporate shows, the 31-year-old has been playing at a reputed city-based hotel for four years now and loves every moment of it because of the different kinds of reactions that she gets from the audience. She observes, “People are fascinated by the piano. Nobody thinks that I am playing live because you have pianos that play automatically. People will come to see if I am playing live. It is because you see people playing on stage, but not in a public place as they usually think it is lobby music.” Over the years, she has noticed that a lot more people have started liking and gravitating towards instrumental music than before. Just like Remedios and Deniz, she gets requests to play different songs and sees how people groove to the music and dance in the lobby area and some children even do ballet. Some people even go a step further and take the opportunity to compliment her while visiting musicians give their critiques. She adds, “The more memorable ones are when couples dance and have their romantic gestures; people singing to ballads. Once, I played an Ed Sheeran song and there was a young Indian couple nearby, and soon after I finished, the boyfriend came up to me and said, ‘Thank you for playing that song. My girlfriend was in such a bad mood. You just cheered her up.’ When babies come, I play some nursery rhymes and then they sing with their kids, and it becomes a sing-along session. She has seen people like ‘Golden Hour’ by JVKE, and music from ‘Interstellar’ (2014), which are her favourites. It has made her realise how important it is for pianists to know more music that is not just for adults but also for kids or the older folk as you have to not only play the classics but also some famous pop songs to engage everybody.  While it may seem like an enjoyable experience to play in a public place, Ferreira also highlights the other side of it because all kinds of people come to the hotel. While you are alone on the stage and facing the audience who are quiet when you play, she says, “People are constantly walking around you in the lobby. You will have some kids suddenly touch your piano, people will come and take videos and put their phone in your face, and even come close to you and keep their hand on your shoulder to click a selfie. When you are in a public space, you have to keep your guard up and tell people to stand a little away.”  For the city pianist who started learning the instrument when she was seven years old, and played at college events and the church, playing for people in the hotel has been a different kind of experience. Especially after she started performing in public by busking in the by-lanes of Vasai. She shares, “I had my choir, and we used to go busking in Vasai during Christmas, and that is when I got more into the performance side of playing the piano.”  Interestingly, Ferreira sheds light on an important aspect of performing in a public space. While malls and hotels are still within the purview of the hotel property, busking is a tempting prospect that has been popular abroad but hasn’t taken off much in India as musicians would like. “Busking has picked up in India, but the only fear is the cops catching you because the challenge is getting permissions. There are so many talented musicians in Mumbai and India who can get on the street and perform in a safe space and opportunities to stand there and keep their box there and put a donation.” The Mumbaikar reminds us how it isn’t something bad but just allowing them to put their music out there. “In Vasai, since there are a lot of churches and groups, they go around playing their music with the entire setup. I think we need to start this more everywhere,” she concludes.

World Happiness Report 2024: Old Indian women most satisfied in life

In the recently released World Happiness Report 2024 on the occasion of International Day of Happiness observed on March 20 every year, Finland topped the list of the happiest countries in the world for the seventh consecutive year.  The top 10 happiest countries in the world, according to the report are, Finland, Denmark, Iceland, Sweden, Israel, Netherlands, Norway, Luxembourg, Switzerland and Australia.   World Happiness Report is a global happiness index that releases in-depth data on factors that contribute to human well-being, the happiness ratings of countries and the significance of measuring happiness.   This year, India ranked 126th out of 143 nations retaining its rank from 2023. It must be noted that in 2023 India ranked 126th position out of 136 countries, making it one of the least happy countries in the world. In 2022, India ranked 136th position out of 146 countries. According to the report that was collated by a partnership of Gallup, the Oxford Wellbeing Research Centre, the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network, and the WHR’s Editorial Board, India is behind Pakistan, Libya, Iraq, and Palestine.   In a surprising revelation, the report states that older age is associated with higher life satisfaction in India. It mentions, “On average, older men in India are more satisfied with life than older women but when taking all other measures into account, older women report higher life satisfaction than their male counterparts.”  India’s older population is the second largest worldwide, with 140 million Indians aged 60 and over, second only to its 250 million Chinese counterparts. As per the report, it was found that older adults in India with secondary or higher education and those of higher social castes experienced higher life satisfaction than counterparts without formal education and those belonging to the scheduled castes and scheduled tribes. This life satisfaction is determined by three major predictors: living arrangements, perceived discrimination, and self-rated health.   The report also mentions that empirical research on gender and life satisfaction in later life has yielded mixed findings. Some studies have found older women report higher life satisfaction than older men, others have found older women to report lower life satisfaction than their male peers, and yet others observed no significant gender difference in life satisfaction. In the present study, older women in India have higher levels of life satisfaction than older men. This is somewhat surprising given that women are exposed to more everyday life stressors (e.g., workplace discrimination; secondary social status within families and society at large) and are considered to be more susceptible to them.  Likewise, research has reported on the role of education, marital status, religion, depression, and physical activity and exercise play in gender differentials in life satisfaction. Also Read: International Day of Happiness: Yoga practices to cultivate joy One factor that may contribute to older women’s greater life satisfaction relative to older men is social resources, namely social support. Women, in general, possess wider and more diverse social networks, including a greater number of friends and confidants which likely translates into not only more social support but diverse forms of it.  Men, alternatively, report fewer intimate social relationships and mostly rely on their spouses for support with far fewer people they deem to be their confidants. Older women in India, especially of older cohorts, also may have invested more in building and maintaining family ties (e.g., organising gatherings, writing holiday and birthday cards, and doing physical and emotional care work) while older Indian men may have shouldered the responsibility of building family finances. Gendered division of labour of this nature may explain differences in support later in life, which may reflect gender differences in life satisfaction with older women reporting to be more satisfied with life than their older male peers.  In the global ranking of happiness in the old (aged 60 and above), India ranks 121st out of 143 nations. Likewise, in the global ranking of happiness in the young (aged below 30), India ranks 127th out of 143 nations. Ayodhya celebrates first Holi after Ram temple 'pran pratishtha' ceremony

This year's Holi marked a significant occasion as it was the first celebration after the inauguration of the Ram temple earlier in the year. Devotees, eager for the auspicious 'darshan' (sight) of the deity, flocked to the temple complex from early morning, adding an extra layer of spiritual fervor to the festive atmosphere. The devotees, in a traditional display of reverence, offered vibrant 'gulal' to the revered deity, symbolizing their adoration and devotion. Within the temple premises, devotees engaged in joyful festivities, playing Holi with fragrant flower petals and colorful Gulal. The atmosphere was filled with joyous laughter and chants as devotees immersed themselves in the celebration of this sacred occasion. As part of the ceremonial rituals, an elaborate 'Chappan Bhog,' consisting of 56 delectable dishes, was ceremoniously offered to Lord Ram, adorned in resplendent pink brocade, symbolizing the abundance of devotion and offerings bestowed upon the divine. Amidst the jubilant festivities, the temple priests led the devotees in singing traditional Holi songs, adding a melodic charm to the air. With joyful abandon, they danced in devotion before the idol of Ram Lalla, celebrating the divine presence amidst them. Speaking on the significance of the occasion, Ram Janmabhoomi temple's chief priest, Acharya Satyendra Das, expressed profound joy, stating, "Ram Lalla is celebrating his first Holi after the Pran Pratishtha ceremony in the temple." He further described the intricate decorations adorning the idol, embellished with fragrant flowers, and the symbolic application of 'gulal' on the deity's forehead, signifying the auspicious beginning of this cherished tradition in the newly consecrated temple. Celebrated across the country, Holi is a beloved festival famous for its revelry. While customs and traditions might differ among households, many people engage in playing with colours. Owing to a wide range of colours available on the market, we cannot be entirely sure of them being organic, or predict the impact they can have on our skin, hair, and nails. "While some resort to oiling their body, and hair there isn’t a recommended routine to prepare for Holi. Whether it is dry or wet, smearing colours may end up damaging your skin and hair. “Amidst the revelry, it's crucial to prioritise your well-being,” says Dr. Rashmi Shetty, cosmetic dermatologist, Ra Aesthetics and Dermatology. If you’re someone who is concerned about acne breakouts, hair damage, or nail breakage, we’ve got you covered. Below, the expert shares easy to follow precautionary and post-care tips to ensure you celebrate a carefree Holi. Pre-care for skin1. If you have dry, sensitive, or acne-prone skin, focus on protective measures like moisturising and repairing the skin barrier with suitable products. Indulge in a lot of moisturisers, night repair and nourishing creams. 2. Consult a dermatologist, in case of an acne infection, to acquire potential doses of required anti-inflammatory supplements or medication to ensure a hassle-free and enjoyable Holi experience. Beauty runs skin deep, so does skincare. Remember, it is not simply what you apply on your skin, but also what you consume. Consider increasing intake of the following: 1. Start a week before by incorporating antioxidant and anti-inflammatory supplements like Vitamin C, hyaluronic acid, and Xanthin into your routine. A few other ingredients you look at in combinations are milk thistle, tulsi, ginger, piperine, curcumin, resveratrol, etc.  2. If you experience severe itching or irritation from colours, seek immediate medical attention to avoid exacerbating skin issues. Pre-care for hair 1. Apply ample coconut oil to a clean scalp and on your hair strands. This forms a protective barrier against harsh colours and prevents them from penetrating deep into your hair shafts. 2. Ensure to keep your hair tied up in a messy bun or braid to minimise exposure to colours. This reduces the chances of colours getting entangled in your hair and causing damage not only from them, but also from other environmental conditions. 3. Cover your hair with a hat or cap to shield it from direct exposure to colours and sunlight. This provides an extra layer of protection and prevents colours from sticking to your hair. 4. You may also consider a leave-in conditioner before you head out to play Holi. This helps in sealing the hair cuticles and prevents colour from seeping into the hair shafts. Ensure to immediately wash your hair. One hair wash will suffice, as multiple washes may lead to dry hair. 2. Rinse your hair thoroughly with lukewarm water to remove the colour particles. Avoid using hot water as it can strip off the natural oils. 3. Avoid using a harsh shampoo which contains sulphates. Massage the shampoo gently into your scalp and hair strands, focusing on areas where the colour is excess. Follow up with a hydrating conditioner to restore moisture and nourishment to your hair. This can be rinsed off with cold water. 4. Give your hair a break from heat styling tools such as blow dryers, straighteners, and curling irons. Let your hair air dry naturally to prevent further damage. Pre- care for your nails1 Apply a protective coat of clear nail polish to create a barrier between your nails and the colours. 2. Trim and file your nails to prevent breakage. 3. You may also consider gloves to shield your nails from direct contact with the colours. Post-care for your nails1. After playing Holi, soak your nails in warm, soapy water to eliminate any remaining colour pigments. 2. Indie Ingenuity: How DIY music creators thrive beyond record labels

When a music-head ventures beyond the confines of Bollywood, an ever-expanding pool of ‘indie’ music comes into focus. While there is ample haze around who an ‘indie’ artist is, some of the homegrown musicians who ring a bell on the craft include: Anuv Jain, The Local Train, Prateek Kuhad, Aditi Dot, Kayan and more. To expand further: an indie artist is someone who adopts the 'do-it-yourself’ philosophy over working with major labels like Zee Music Company, Sony Music India, Saregama, Tips and the like. Yet this description is limiting and fails to capture the essence of an 'indie' musician. Serving as a vessel for the zeitgeist, open to introspection, and an ever-evolving craftsman, an 'indie' artist carves her own niche. Blurring the lines between genres, relying solely on gut instinct and drawing inspiration from banal surroundings, an indie artist pushes boundaries, redefines rules, and challenges the traditional stronghold of major record labels. Departing from conventional music releases With the surge of online music streaming platforms, indie artists have begun to assert lordship over their craft, embracing a more direct and immediate approach to sharing their work with audiences worldwide. By bypassing the traditional gatekeepers of the music industry, indie musicians now have unparalleled freedom to release their music independently. One of those platforms – Spotify, ranked as the top music streaming platform in India (as per a report by Redseer Strategy Consultants) has emerged as one of the primary sources for indie musicians to get discovered online, skipping the protocols set by corporate labels and music giants. These platforms offer a democratised space where artists can upload their music directly, allowing for greater creative control, monetisation of their audio assets and a closer connection with fans. Additionally, the algorithmic nature of online streaming services provides indie artists with opportunities for organic discovery, enabling their music to reach niche audiences who appreciate their unique sound and style. Pic/Instagram In a conversation with this writer, the Archies actor and an indie musician, Aditi Saigal (aka Dot) tells us why having her music featured on Spotify playlists has broadened her horizons. “Being on ‘Radar’ playlists has been a huge boost for my music as that's where most people discover music nowadays. I'm not entirely sure how the mechanics of it all work. I just create the music, upload it, and then Spotify handles the rest.” Indie artists know that seizing unexpected chances can alter the course of their careers. Dot recalls the day when she was recording at Spotify’s studio in London. “They have this writer's room in Metropolis Studios where we actually ended up writing ‘Girls Night’. I and the guys at Playbook spent about 6-7 hours there, and it was quite mind-blowing because we took a sneaky look at the recording schedule and some of my favourite artists had slots right after us. It felt like we were a part of something big, you know? 'Girls Night' ended up getting playlisted globally by Spotify and even made the cover of the ‘Borderless’ (Spotify) playlist. Thus, with the advent of tools provided by music streaming platforms – indie artists are now able to own their music right from bookings, recordings, promotions (to) distribution. This is a respite given how the informal music industry of ‘indie’ is marred with cutthroat competition, financial insecurity, and piracy – making the artists more vulnerable. Sari, swag and sonic rebels: What women in Indian hip-hop owe to rap music In an interview with this newspaper in 2022, DJ Emaan from Mumbai confirms this: “High-profile contractors have complete monopoly over the Indian music industry, and this leads to exploitation. I had to depend on private gigs to earn extra money.” It’s why he decided to branch out, and work independently, taking up short-term residency opportunities and high-profile gigs, across the country. Pic/Instagram With soulful melodies like ‘Jadoo,’ ‘Noor,’ ‘Sahare,’ Akshath has emerged as a genre-defying indie musician whose work is a fusion of indie and pop, with a touch of traditional Indian influences. Speaking to this writer, he opens up about his inspiration: “I've always been drawn to the emotional depth and storytelling aspect of indie music, while the infectious melodies and modern production of pop resonated with me on a personal level.” While Akshath was offered a few label deals after passing out of college, he dived into online streaming, where he discovered firsthand how fans resonated with his music. “Spotify's artist tools and analytics provided valuable insights into my audience demographics, listening habits and geographic distribution, allowing me to tailor marketing efforts, gigs and shows and fan engagements more effectively.” By analysing metrics such as listener demographics, play counts, skip rates and playlist placements, Akshath has gained insights into which songs strike his audience and why. Additionally, the results of any marketing efforts (e.g. Reels) can be directly seen through a spike in streams (or lack thereof). This allows indie musicians to curate promotional efforts in an informed manner. Also Read: How Indian indie musicians are trying to connect with fans through unique merchandise Like Dot, Akshath swears by ‘Radar’ which has proved to be the most impactful form of support in his music-making journey. “It was a landmark moment for me when the ‘Radar Campaign’ was taken global, and my name and face were on FC Barcelona’s Camp Nou stadium. It made me believe that my art means something and that I’m here to stay,” he added. Nurturing indie talent via tailored playlists and tools Dhruvank Vaidya – Head of music and podcasts, at Spotify India Literally speaking, “indie” is quite simply the abbreviation of the word “independent” and represents the creator community. Dhruvank Vaidya – Head of music and podcasts, at Spotify India, outlines that Spotify has always been focused on the creator community, and artists are a huge part of that. He uncovers the digital tools designed to support the indie music community of India. Fresh Finds: In 2021, Spotify launched Fresh Finds, an initiative for developing independent artists, and in 2023 alone, Fresh Finds supported over 700 artists in India. The leading playlist in the category, Indie India, added over 500,000 followers in the last two years, making it one of the fastest-growing playlists in the country on the platform. Spotify For Artists: This platform allows artists to access in-depth data about their audience, markets, music performance, discoverability and more. It continues to host masterclasses to educate artists on how they can make the most of Spotify to grow their music and fan base. “Today, over 28,000 artists in India use Spotify which is nearly twice the figure from last year,” informs Vaidya. Radar: Spotify’s global emerging-artists program, RADAR, launched in India close to four years ago, which gives up-and-coming independent artists a stronger local and global audience through the platform. Since its launch, the team has engaged over 40 emerging artists locally, providing them with playlist curation and marketing support. Keeping up with the evolving trends “While film music continues to be big in India across languages, we are now seeing an emergence of artist-first popular music,” remarks Vaidya. There is rapid growth in music languages such as Hindi, Punjabi, Kannada, and Haryanvi among others. The widespread availability of digital streaming platforms and tools has made it easier for artists to create and distribute their music, without the constraints imposed by major record labels Several artists now release their songs audio-first and often don’t create music videos. This has eased the pressure on musicians to compete on both aural and visual levels thereby leveraging their talent to reach a wider audience and gain recognition. Vaidya highlights that there has also been a shift in the perception of independent music in India, with more acceptance and recognition from mainstream media and the industry. This has encouraged an increasing number of indie artists to pursue their passion for music independently and explore creative avenues. Ahead of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, critically acclaimed Norwegian DJ and music producer Alan Walker made his live debut at an Indian cricket league with #RCBUnbox at Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Tuesday. The 26-year-old global star delivered an eclectic performance that lasted over 30 minutes and entertained a full house of over 25,000 attendees. Taking audiences by surprise and incorporating a crossover element to his set, he sampled an impromptu remix of ‘Salaam Rocky Bhai’ from the blockbuster film, KGF. The dance music prodigy was also seen exchanging collaborative notes with ace batsman Virat Kohli, all-rounder Glenn Maxwell and wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik in the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) locker room, discussing life lessons, work-life balance and their love for their respective professions.  During the former half of the day, he was spotted attending the women’s cricket team victory run at the stands as well as keenly watching the practice session of the men’s team. Aside from his engaging headlining performance, Walker joined Kohli, Faf du Plessis and Smriti Mandhana on stage to unveil the team’s brand-new jersey. For the unversed, the multi-platinum global artist has crafted RCB’s multi-lingual team track titled ‘Team Side ft RCB’ featuring pop artist Sofiloud. Alan Walker states, "I had a great time performing at the #RCBUnbox event and it was a surreal feeling to be surrounded by so much fan love, joy and positivity in the stadium.
