When Rumki Fernandes had trouble climbing up a flight of stairs a few years ago, she knew it was time to take action. The time-strapped HR professional enlisted help from fitness trainer Shahzad Daver of V-Fit, who tailor-made an exercise schedule, keeping her current fitness level and future health goals in mind.

"We decided the schedule according to my convenience," says Fernandes. Today, the 40 year-old is the picture of health and vitality; aches, pains and exhaustion are things of the past.

Integrated fitness solution company V-Fit, which Daver runs along with Viraf Tavadia, provides expert wellness services to people at home. "We have professional trainers, ranging from personal trainers to kick-boxing experts and aerobic and yoga instructors. Each trainer undergoes three levels of theoretical and practical training exams before we certify them," says Daver, who has 10 years of experience in the industry.

Clients can also avail of the services of a nutritionist and a masseur. In addition, a relationship manager is appointed to every individual to ensure that he/ she is well taken care of. The manager checks in every 45 days and keeps one motivated to achieve one's fitness goals.

"Before delegating a personal trainer, a counselor evaluates the client to understand his or her requirements, based on the person's past medical history and motivational quotient, and then sets an achievable target," says Daver, adding, "We have Fitness Aptitude Templates which will help us understand the person's exercise psychology."

Monitoring and progress evaluation follows, after which a workout chart is prepared, and daily attendance and progress noted. Thus begins your journey to lifestyle modification.

For those at a loss of what equipment to buy and use, V-Fit offers a complementary consultancy on the purchase of gym and exercise equipment for the home. "We continue to train our instructors through workshops and seminars," says Daver.u00a0

Members can avail of discounts from dietary service Calorie Care, Neu Lif authorised dealers for top supplements, NM Medical diagnostic centre, and Caxton fitness gear and equipment store.u00a0

Membership fees range from Rs 5,000 per month for basic membership to Rs 18,000 per month, which includes a multiple-choice plan, complete with trainer and dietician, on call 24x7.

Checklist for choosing the personal trainer who's 'right' for you
>> Isu00a0he/ she certified to teach? Certifications are a good place to start. A background in physical education or exercise science is a plus.

>> Does he/ she have the requisite experience? If you have a disability, injury, or other medical problem that affects your ability to exercise, then ask the trainer if he or she has experience with the problem.

>> Is he/ she a good listener? Find a trainer who listens carefully. What matters most are your goals and limitations, and not what the trainer wants. The trainer should be flexible and understand who you are and what you want from the experience.

>>u00a0What are the scheduling, cost, and cancellation policies? Make sure your trainer doesn't have another job or travel schedule that interferes with scheduling.

>>u00a0Are you comfortable enough to be assertive with him/ her? Ask questions and let the trainer know exactly what you want and expect.
