Over the last few years, cell phone camera technology has progressed to a point where the image sensors contained within mobile phones are (almost) comparable to those found in entry-level point and shoot digital cameras.
On October 7 Sony announced it had developed the world's first 16.41 megapixel back-illuminated CMOS image sensors for mobile phones. Rival phone makers are also investing in more advanced camera technology.
In anticipation of the release of its N8 smartphone (a flagship device with a 12-megapixel sensor and Carl Zeiss optics), Nokia is introducing a brand new series of photo and video tutorials, called the Nokia N8 Camera School.
The tutorials are specifically designed to provide smartphone users with tips, ideas, and skills that will help them capture better still and moving images on their device.
The tutorials are hosted by digital photography master and author of photo-centric blog photocritic.org, Haje Jan Kamps.
"Don't worry if you haven't yet got a Nokia N8 to hand," says Nokia, "Haje's articles will help any photographer and film-maker with any equipment to improve their work."
There are currently five tutorials available on Nokia's Conversations blog: how to shoot a product like a pro, making your mates look their best, and lighting for party photos.
Additional camera-phone tutorials will be added every day during the next couple of weeks.
