When Vrindavan romances Woodstock and Mathura woos Glastonbury, the result is holy cow, a celebration of colour, music and madness

For long, the FB using, iPhone toting, pub-hopping Delhiite has been looking for his own version of Holi. Uttar Pradesh has its Lath mar, Bihar has its Phagwa and Bengal the Dol Jatra. For the Goans it is part of their spring celebrations Sigmo and the Manipuris celebrate it for six days merging it with the century old Yaosang. The Capital's answer to all of them, if we might put it boldly, is Holy Cow.

It started five years back as a small underground festival inviting like-minded friends comprising musicians, artists, poets and those who wanted their little share of 'madness' on this day. Today, from five artists performing to an audience of 85 people, the festival has grown to almost 50 artists performing for a 4,000 strong crowd from all walks of life.

The cow goes fatter
This year, as the festival's curator Raul Chandra puts it, the cow indeed gets fatter. This time three stages have been erected for the artists to perform, keeping in mind the number of participants. We have our old favourites like Menwhopause, who Delhi has always accepted lovingly.

Add to that others like The Burqa Boys, Bombay Basement, Mob Marley and Delhi Sultanate. Okay, you might not be inclined towards all of them but at least you'll have options to choose from, a very important exercise once the bhang starts it's effect. This year the Electronica line-up comprises Reggae Rajahs, to whom the Capital's audience responded well in a show this month, so hopefully the same thing will happen here as well. And if you aren't satisfied you yet again have options and can choose from Bay Beat Collective, Dualists Inquiry and Malana Inc. Interestingly, it doesn't end there. Just when you would think Holy Cow has given you all, there will be a horde of 'mad' travelling
minstrels and a few wild-card entries. So be ready to faceu00a0 Banaras Bhang Baba, Dilli Dhol People and AVI the Urban Balladeer.

And a lot more
Yes, and it doesn't end here. Add to it designers like Nitin Bal Chauhan and Nida Mahmood playing Graffiti or art wall artists for a day. Theu00a0
Moo Puppet Papa Collective will entertaining you and don't miss the theatrical performance by Shoelace productions.

So why you should be there?
Well, if you still haven't got it -- for the music and the sheer carefree madness it generates every year. The artists here perform voluntarily without charging their usual commercial fees. Besides, If you pay a donational fees here, it goes to helping underpriviledged children with musical inclinations. Still need a reason to be there?u00a0
