What happens when you bring five bands with different sounds together on a common playing field? Well, for starters, you get an eclectic, adrenaline-heavy mix of music genres. Throw in a picturesque Greek-styled amphitheatre with vineyards in the distance, great food and carnival ambience and yes, free-flowing spirit. The guys behind Sulafest 2010 (it's their tenth anniversary) decided to do just that. Come Saturday, all roads lead to Nashik for a day-long celebration of wine, high-voltage music in a vibrant atmosphere at a music festival that will be held at the wine brand's vineyards. This time, the fest includes Mumbai's Anuskha Manchanda with Shkabang, Something Relevant, Ankur Tewari and the Ghalat Family, and Jalebee Cartel and Teddy Boy Kill from Delhi.
To tune up things for their big nite in wine country, we got a member from each of the five bands for a different kind of gig, minus the head banging and tub thumping. Check out how they sized up on their Wine IQ.
What to expect at the fest
Jalebee Cartel, who performed last year too, will close the night on Saturday. "It's an open-air venue, so, we will change the sound. You'll get to hear our trademark electronic set with a deeper vibe and a few new tracks that we are working on," Arjun says.
Ankur TEwari & the Ghalat Family will be the opening act, so the excitement is palpable. They will use different guitars in the amphitheatre setting.
Teddy Boy Kill's Ashhar will play tracks from their just released album, The Exit Plan (www.soundcloud.com/teddyboykill, www.last.fm/teddyboykill).
Something Relevant too has a special set lined up. "People better be wearing comfortable shoes," Stuart warns.
Shkabang plan to create a stir in their debut performance at the fest.
Laugh
Stand-up comedian Tanmay Bhat with Rohan Joshi, Kunal Rao and Ashish Shakya will also perform. Too much noise? Slow things down at the guest lounge to indulge in foot massages and tarot card reading sessions.
Eat
The gastronomically inclined can sniff their way to kebab, pasta and pizza stalls, dished out from Sula's vineyard restaurants, with a heady spread of local and imported wines for company.
Shop
There's a bazaar with art and craft stalls, clothes, eco-friendly gifts, and jewellery stations. Tattoo and nail artists, a caricaturist and hair braiders will be around too.u00a0
