Math Professor D Sashidharan from Kerala has created a calendar that will last you till it is physically damaged
There is a 52 year-old professor in Kerala who doesn't want you to bin the calendar that hangs on your wall all year, on the 31st of December.
D Sashidharan, a Mathematics professor at the Sree Narayana College in Kollam, has created a calendar that will last 50 years.
How did you come up with this bizarre idea?
Every year, we spend more than Rs 1,000 crore on calendars and they find a place in the dustbin after a year. It's a universal waste. I thought of designing something that would last forever, until physically damaged.
How did you go about creating it?
I researched extensively on the Internet, and got in touch with the Calendar Reform Committee in New York to discuss the possibility of my project. I have been working on it, on and off for the last 18 years, and have also written two books, World Calendar and Have an Almanac at your Fingertips. Once I get the copyright license from the Kerala government, the calendar will be available to customers.u00a0

How does it look and feel?
The calendar is made up of homemade paper, just like a regular calendar, and can in fact, be easily printed on eight, 13, 22 pages, and so on. It has year, month and date columns. I have given codes to each, with the help of which you can determine what day corresponds to what date, even 50 years later.u00a0

What will be the average cost of the calendar? Also, can you customise calendars?
Yes, you can get a calendar made according to preference, for 20, 30 and 40 years. It will cost about Rs 30. The price can go up marginally depending on the number of pages.
