1. From a Zoroastrian priest to an opera musician — How and when did the transition occur?
I was born into a priestly family and by the sixth grade, I was already a fully ordained priest; I have also been singing all my life in school musicals and choirs. I first discovered my love for opera at 17 when I shifted to Mumbai (from Pune) and happened to meet Patricia Rozario (world famous soprano and his teacher); she nurtured and encouraged me to sing in the operas at the NCPA and since then it’s been a roller coaster. I went on to do concerts with the Bombay Chamber Orchestra and solos at the Russian consulate, as well as private concerts. My parents and friends have been extremely instrumental and supportive in my endeavours, which has helped.

2. What can people expect from your performance at the Pop Up INK?
My aim when I perform is to take the audience with me on a journey, make them feel happy, sad, excited and connect with them through my music. I am very excited to perform to a mixed and intelligent crowd. Godrej India Culture Lab offers a great opportunity to bring together some of the best minds who can help initiate change in India through their innovative and creative ideas. It’s a pleasure to be a part of such a forum and enhance my knowledge of key trends in our culture and society.

3. Could you tell us about your training and what do you seek to achieve?
I am currently training with Minaish Doctor who is my vocal teacher in Mumbai and Patricia Rozario who comes from London quarterly to give master classes. My aim is to make India proud and to be the first great Zoroastrian singer of the Classical world.
