Rotary Elegant Eco Visarjan for Ganesh Utsav 2021

It is our responsibility to protect the environment which is God’s gift to us, therefore, we conduct Eco Visarjan every year, says Rotary Elegant President, Nilima Jhunjhunwala

Rotary Club of Mumbai Elegant, an all-women Rotary Club launched its annual service project which involves festivities in an environmentally friendly way. Since 2018, Rotary Elegant has been conducting Eco Ganpati Visarjan at Juhu Beach handling thousands of visarjan in an artificial pond thereby saving the sea & beach from pollution caused in the aftermath of festivities.


This project is very close to Rotary Elegant President, Nilima Jhunjhunwala’s heart. She says, “We all enjoy festivals, they are very dear& near to us, especially for Ganpati festivals, where Ganpati comes to our homes. It becomes our responsibility to protect the environment which again is a God’s gift to us, and as caretakers we should be responsible in minimizing the pollution we cause, so as our future generations can enjoy it as much as we have in our life time.”


President Nilima Jhunjhunwala feels Eco Friendly Ganpati Visarjan is an attempt in this direction.This year,Rotary Elegant will conduct eco visarjan on all the visarjan days. On the first day of visarjan, over 400visarjans were conducted by the Rotary Elegant team at the site. The Juhu-based, Eco Visarjan site can handle over 1000 visarjans daily for idols upto a height of 3 feet.


Eminent personalities like Marathi cinema actress, Rajshree Thakur, MLA Shri Ameet Satam, along with local municipal corporator, SmtRenuHansraj, Senior PSI Juhu Police Station, Shri Shashikant Mane, were among the special guests who came to encourage and support the cause. Shri Ameet Satam, praised the initiative and requested Mrs. Jhunjhunwala, to keep this facility on for all days of Ganpati Visarjan.

Expressing her happiness, Rajashree Thakur said, “Following this eco-friendly way of Visarjan, Bappa would be really pleased and nature will appreciate these conscious efforts by the human society.”

The occasion was also graced by Rotary District 3141 Governor Rajendra Agarwal, AT Anand Ramnani, AG Sandip Kedia. Members of other Rotary Clubs also participated in visarjan.

“Eco Visarjan project is an example set for the entire society, everyone should follow and get involved. I am proud to witness and be part of this beautiful initiative” exclaimed DG Rajendra Agarwal

Rotary Club of Mumbai Elegant members participated in volunteering in large numbers, many of them even got their kids to volunteer for this noble cause.

“We all can together make a difference in a small way, it’s up to the public at large to adopt this small difference to make it a large change in way we conduct ourselves and treat our environment. She thanks all dignitaries, members & their children for providing encouragement & helping hand.” Said Mrs. Jhunjhunwala.
