It is home to numerous species of birds including the Siberian Duck and Ibis. Another lesser known fact is that it is where 138 endangered Irrawaddy Dolphins reside.
These friendly Oceanic Dolphins who get their name from Myanmar's most important river, are found mainly in and around the Bay of Bengal and South East Asia.
The local fisherman consider them lucky and it was believed that they drive fish towards their nets. 
However rampant poaching has severely reduced their population and a visit to the lake, is a must, before they disappear.
Hop on to a crude makeshift boat for trip to the Dolphin point.The noisy motorboats will take you past dolphins, fishing villages, temples and stop at a sandy beach where the lake joins the Bay of Bengal.
Dolphin Motor Boat Association, Satapada offers trips to Nalaban Bird Sanctuary and trips to the Dolphin Point and to the mouth of the lake, which costs Rs 700-Rs 1,000.
