Monica Sahu is a fitness enthusiast who takes her workouts very seriously. Her Instagram account showcases various Yoga poses that she has perfected and it is a huge inspiration to scroll through all those images of her working hard to achieve her fitness goals.
We at mid-day.com had a chat with Monica Sahu and asked her about her journey into fitness. Here are excerpts from the interview
Q: What made you turn to yoga as a fitness regimen?
Monica: I have always been fascinated by the concept of flexibility. My wish to try and replicate even the simplest of poses came to a halt when I could not find a fellow enthusiast at the gym. Most gyms want women to focus on cardio and some even promote weight training but most of them do not focus on stretching. Then I decided to take it as a solo challenge and started leaning from pictures and videos online. Posting my attempted on social media brought a lot of helpful inputs from the global yoga bloggers and that is how Yoga slowly became a regular part of my training.'
Q: Why would you choose Instagram to showcase your struggles and successes?
Monica: I had started training to lose weight but after a few months I was bored and wanted to stop training. That's when a friend of mine, a fellow fitness enthusiast, suggested Instagram for not just inspiration but also to learn new taking ideas from international fitness professionals.'
Monica Sahu added, 'Eventually, trying out my own ideas and sharing them online because of a regular habit. Instagram helped me stay focused when I might have given up. I certainly got a lot of positivity from each and every person who has been a part of my fitness journey especially the unconditional and unfathomable online support from my Instagram Fit Fam.'
Q: Some of the poses that you showcase on Instagram look pretty complex. How much time did it take to achieve the flexibility to perform these poses?
Monica: I was naturally very stiff when I began trying Yoga poses but with time and effort it all became easier. With every success, one is even more motivated to take the next step forward. I have been practicing for 3 years now and it has been absolutely wonderful.
Q: How has Yoga helped you?
Monica: It helps me recover faster from injuries and even prevent a lot of possible damage. Overall health comes from a happy, positive and dedicated mindset. Yoga definitely helps achieve this level of fitness.
Considering that the definition of beauty and being 'perfect' is firmly linked to one's weight, Monica Sahu has set off on a journey to be fit while breaking through a number of body-image barriers.
