A 55-year-old man was arrested for allegedly repeatedly raping a woman and impregnating her after luring her with the promise of a good job in Dubai, a Navi Mumbai police official said on Friday, reported the PTI.
As per the complaint filed on June 17, the victim faced this ordeal between January and March this year, the Vashi police station official said.
"The 55-year-old accused was arrested on July 15 under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for rape and other offences. He was held from Thane jail, where he is lodged in connection with another case. A probe has shown he is accused of such crimes at other police stations as well," sub inspector Babasaheb Sangle said, according to the PTI.
Meanwhile, in an another incident, a 30-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly repeatedly raping a woman on the promise of marriage in Navi Mumbai, police said on Friday, reported the PTI.
The accused, a resident of Ulwe, had befriended the woman and allegedly sexually assaulted her on multiple occasions since February, an official said.
The officials said that he also allegedly forced the woman to terminate a pregnancy and shot objectionable photos and videos of her.
The accused also got her to sign a joint affidavit of marriage, and he allegedly told her that since he had "married" her, she could not file a case against him, the official said.
The suspect has been booked under sections 64, 64(2)(d) (rape), 69 (sexual intercourse by employing deceitful means, etc.), 75 (Sexual harassment), 89 (causing miscarriage without woman's consent) and other relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, he said, the news agency reported on Friday.
Man held for sexually abusing two children in Kalyan
Earlier this week, a man was arrested for sexually abusing two children, both 11 years of age, in Kalyan in Thane district, a railway police official said on Monday, reported the PTI.
The two children were found at Kalyan railway station on June 26, who told police they had been brought by the accused, identified as Arun Uttapa (28), from Wadala in Mumbai, the official said.
"The accused also sodomised them. He was arrested on Sunday under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and POCSO Act for kidnapping, rape and other offences," Kalyan railway police had earlier said, the news agency reported.
