The Bangur Nagar police managed to arrest the accused bus driver who allegedly killed an 18-year-old Vishal Vishram Kuyeshkar in a hit-and-run case. The police said the CCTV cameras where the incident occurred are not functioning but they found an eyewitness who said the accident happened because of a speeding cyclist who hit Kuyeshkar’s bike causing him to come under the bus. The Bangur Nagar police are now searching for the cyclist.

Kuyeshkar was a first-year BMS student who died on December 25 last year after he was crushed under a BEST bus at Goregaon. The bus driver has been identified as Mukesh Pandurang Kathare, 35. Owing to the delay in the investigation, Kuyeshkar’s family met Police Commissioner Parambir Singh and also zone 11 DCP Vishal Thakur to help them find who was responsible.

Kuyeshkar’s father Vishram said, “In one of the CCTV cameras installed outside Bangur Nagar police chowkie only captured my son and a few other vehicles passing on the road. The police arrested the bus driver on the basis of an assumption and timing. When police called the a car driver who was passing by at the same time he revealed that a speeding cycle rider hit my son’s bike and he fell down on the road in the path of the bus.”

Senior Inspector Shobha Pise said, “We recorded the bus driver’s statement and he too told us that the deceased biker had been hit by a cyclist first and he fell down on the road.”
