Mumbai Customs seize drugs worth Rs 13 crore, USD worth Rs 87 lakh at airport; five held

Mumbai Customs officials from Zone III at Mumbai airport seized narcotic substances worth over Rs 13 crore and foreign currency worth Rs 87 lakh in different operations carried out between October 31 and November 3, 2025.

The seizures were made in five separate cases at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) following intelligence-based operations and passenger profiling, the officials said.


Based on specific intelligence, Mumbai Customs officers intercepted a passenger arriving from Colombo. A search of the passenger’s baggage led to the recovery of 2.568 kg of Hydroponic Weed (Marijuana), valued at approximately Rs 2.56 crore. The drugs were hidden inside a trolley bag. The passenger was arrested under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.



In an another case, officers intercepted a passenger arriving from Bangkok. During baggage inspection, they found 2.39 kg of Hydroponic Weed, worth around Rs 2.39 crore, concealed inside chocolate and chips packets. The passenger was arrested under the NDPS Act.

In a third case, passenger arriving from Bangkok was found carrying 1.144 kg of Hydroponic Weed, valued at Rs 1.14 crore, hidden in shampoo bottles. The individual was arrested under the NDPS Act.

Another passenger arriving from Bangkok was caught with 6.975 kg of Hydroponic Weed, worth Rs 6.97 crore, concealed in a trolley bag. The passenger was arrested under the NDPS Act, officials said.

In a separate case, Customs officers intercepted a passenger arriving from Dubai. The team recovered foreign currency (USD) equivalent to Rs 87 lakh, hidden in the passenger’s trolley bag. The person was arrested under the Customs Act, 1962.

Mumbai Customs officials said that all passengers involved were taken into custody and further investigations are underway.
