Two weeks after two men made away with a box of jewellery worth '2.5 lakh from a store in Charkop, the local police arrested the duo from the Malvani Church area late on Wednesday. One of the accused had posed as a customer and entered Padmavati Jewellers, while the other person was waiting on a bike outside the shop. The arrested accused have been identified as Ravikumar Singh, 31, and Shyam Gujjar, 23.
During interrogation it was found that the bike used in the crime had been stolen from Mira Road area. It was also revealed that the accused stole two more bikes from Charkop and MHB areas recently. Cops suspect that they have carried out similar robberies in the city and adjoining areas. They would remove the number plates of the bikes and use them for the crimes.

Speaking to mid-day, Vishal Thakur, deputy commissioner of police (zone XI), said, “Based on the complaint officers started investigating the case under the supervision of senior inspector Manohar Shinde. Police inspector GS Nair with the help of PSI Vijay Shinde Waghmare and their detection staff nabbed the accused.”
The theft
On February 4, Singh entered Padmavati Jewellers posing as a customer. He asked the shopowner to show him a couple of gold pendants. Shopkeeper Chetan Khicha took out a box of pendants and placed it before Singh for him to choose. However, the accused asked Khicha to show him some more options. While the shopkeeper was busy taking out some more, Singh grabbed the box containing 18 pendants and fled from the shop. He along with the other accused drove away on the bike.
