A case has been registered at the MIDC Police Station after a woman accused of a theft case escaped from police custody on Thursday night.

According to sources, the accused has been identified as Divya Vasant Kale alias Muskan Pawar (32), a resident of Shinde Shirasgaon in Lasur, Taluka Gangapur, District Sambhajinagar. Kale was allegedly caught red-handed by locals in a theft case on Thursday and handed over to the police. She was subsequently booked under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and placed under arrest.

She was scheduled to be produced before the Andheri court on Friday, but reportedly managed to escape from legal custody along with her two children — one aged one-and-a-half years and the other just seven months old.

Following her escape, another case has been registered under various sections of the BNS. Police have launched a search operation, and further investigation is underway to trace the accused.
