BJP leader booked for sharing communal posts on social media
Jiten Gajaria, Bharatiya Janata Party’s media cell member, was booked on January 6 by Pune cyber police over sharing communal posts to create differences between Hindus and Muslims. The complaint was filed by Umesh Wagh, Shiv Sena representative and social worker from Pune. He also added that the BJP media cell member made derogatory statements against Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackrey’s wife Rashmi Thackeray, Sharad Pawar and late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
Mumbai cyber cell recorded Gajaria’s statement and allowed him to leave after he gave a written apology and deleted the tweets against the CM’s wife. Pune police registered an FIR under various sections of the IPC
Ghatkopar brothers held for conning people with fake tour deals
The Ghatkopar police booked two brothers for allegedly duping many people of at least Rs 35 lakh on the pretext of selling them tour packages. While one of the brothers has been arrested, the police are waiting to take the other into custody as he has got Covid-19. The action against Avinash Jadhwani, 26, and Akash Jadhwani, 21, was based on a complaint by Dilip Singh, who lives in Ghatkopar. The two also face about 10 more cases of cheating, said cops
Mumbai Crime: Three held in Antop Hill with drugs worth Rs 16 crore
Three people were arrested from Antop Hill by the Mumbai Crime Branch on January 12 with drugs worth Rs 16 crore. According to the crime branch, based on specific information, three people were detained from the Antop Hill area and later taken into custody as they were found in a possession of 16.100 kg of synthetic drug Methaqualone worth Rs 16 crore. 11 arrested for kidnapping, selling infant from Mumbai in Tamil Nadu
11 people, including three women, were arrested by the VP Road police in south Mumbai for their alleged involvement in a baby-selling racket. The police said Girgaum resident Anwari Abdul Rashid Sheikh, 50, had allowed a couple with a four-month-old girl to stay in her house about two-and-a-half months ago.
The couple identified themselves as Ibrahim and Sangeeta Chaubey and told the owner that they were in a live-in relationship. Sheikh took care of the baby when they were out for work. In December 2021, Chaubey left the house without informing the owner and never returned. After some time, Ibrahim took the baby out saying she needed polio doses. But neither of them came back. On January 3, the police tracked down Ibrahim, who took them to Tamil Nadu. Ibrahim was in touch with a few surrogate mothers and one of them had tipped him about a childless couple visiting a doctor. Through her, the baby was sold to the couple for Rs 4.8 lakh
Mumbai photographer held for demanding sexual favours from aspiring model
The Malad police arrested a 23-year-old photographer from Titwala on the charge of demanding sexual favours from an aspiring model and releasing her intimate photos on social media after she refused to give in. The complaint was filed by a 22-year-old model, who hails from West Bengal. The police said accused Omkar, alias Omprakash Raju Tiwari would identify himself as a casting director and a photographer attached to a big production house that has made several blockbuster movies. Tiwari has been booked under the Indian Penal Code and the IT Act
