The Oshiwara Police have arrested a 23-year-old man from Goa for allegedly duping a Jogeshwari resident of Rs 6.09 lakh through a fake job scam on Telegram. The accused, identified as Aman Parmar from Indore, Madhya Pradesh, was apprehended last week in Calangute, Goa, with the help of local police.
The police said the victim, a 32-year-old resident of Jogeshwari, works as a supervisor in a slipper factory. On June 12, 2025, he received a message on Telegram from a person calling himself “Vijay”, offering an opportunity to earn Rs 5000–Rs 8000 per day for rating restaurants online.
The complainant followed the instructions and initially received Rs 180 as a “registration reward”. He was then told to click on a link resembling an NSE investment site, where he was shown a fake balance.
The victim was repeatedly asked to transfer increasing amounts of money under the pretence of unlocking higher returns. Between June 12 and June 15, he transferred a total of Rs 6,09,884 via Google Pay and PhonePe.
Despite seeing his balance increase on the fake platform, he received no payouts and realised he had been duped, after which he lodged a formal complaint with the Oshiwara Police Station.
