Alleged star witness Anita Uddaiya and her daughter Seema have been booked under section 182 of the IPC. Crime Branch officials approached the Esplanade court yesterday and sought permission to prosecute the mother-daughter duo for providing false information with the intent to cause public servant to use his lawful power.
Joint Commissioner of Police Rakesh Maria said, "It's impossible that Anita travelled to the US. We checked all the immigration records to confirm if this woman had left the country. Besides she does not have a passport."
A senior crime branch officer said Anita had a tendency to contradict her own statements. Therefore, she was removed from the list of witnesses.
