Around 6,000 litres of illicit liquor was found hidden in drums inside a creek in Kalyan yesterday. The Thane crime branch team with the help of Sheel Dhaighar police, under whose jurisdiction the creek comes, raided the area near Chhoti Desai and Badi Desai village at Kalyan Fata and sized 40 full drums (150 litres each) of the liquor that had been kept hidden underwater.

All the drums were full and hauling them out was difficult. The police have taken samples from each drum and have thrown the rest of the liquor into the creek.

The police team also seized ingredients like molasses, Navsagar and other material used to make the illicit liquor. A police officer, who was part of the team that raided the spot, said, “We are searching for the accused and have inquired with residents in nearby localities, but nobody is saying anything. A special local act case has been registered with the Dhaighar police and investigation is being carried out.”
