u00a0Australia pulled off a thrilling 103-run win in the third and final Test against South Africa at the Sydney Cricket Ground here on Wednesday.
South Africa fought hard in their quest to draw the Test through their adhesive lower order but once Dale Steyn got out, injured captain Graeme Smith walked out to bat much to the amazement of everyone at the historic ground.
Smith had earlier broken his hand (thanks to a Mitchel Johnson delivery in the first innings). He also had a very troublesome shoulder. Smith hung on for a while with Makhaya Ntini but was eventually bowled by Johnson in the second last over of the Test. Aussie seamer Peter Siddle was declared the man of the match while Smith, the series winning captain, claimed the man of the series award.
Chasing a target of 376, South Africa were bowled out for 272. Ntini was superb as a tailend batsman and scored an unbeaten 28.
