The garden at Lower Parel will accommodate an amphitheatre, yoga lawn
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has adopted an 8.5 acres plot of land at Lower Parel, near Bombay Dyeing Mills Compound, to transform the area into a garden, complete with infrastructural facilities. Work on the garden, which is expected to cost a whopping Rs 4 crore, has already begun and is expected to get completed in a year. Entry will be free for all.
The garden will accommodate a bonsai garden spanning 11,520.53 sq mt, a yoga lawn, a gymnasium, an amphitheatre and a basketball spanning 1017.87 sq mt. Sanitation and other maintenance-related issues will be the responsibility of the BMC.

The civic body has floated tenders asking for consultants to come forward with a project plan. Additional Municipal Commissioner, SVR Srinivas, said, “We asked contractors to get the design done by a professional consultant.” When questioned whether entry will be free for all, he said, “Why take money for everything? Children should enjoy the play court and bonsai garden.” A BMC officer, on condition of anonymity, said that the work on the garden will be funded by the BMC.
