The recent arrest of an active member of the Rajan gang, has exposed beyond doubt the strengthening nexus between underworld don Chhota Rajan and the city's bookies.
While the former provide the gang with financial support, the gang members provide them with manpower.

Rajan has reportedly deployed bookies to extort money from several bars and restaurants in the city.
Cops arrested Mandar Borkar (31) last night on charges of assaulting bar owner Rashikant Vyas and his son Rahat Vyas outside the Borivli court on June 16, after they were released on bail.

The father-son duo had been arrested when a certain Satish Shinde lodged a complaint against them, claiming that they had roughed him up at their bar in Dahisar (East).
In course of Borkar's interrogation, he revealed that he had assaulted the father-son duo at Shinde's orders. Shinde had ordered Borkar to assault the Vyases, in order to avenge himself for the humiliation that he suffered when the Vyases threw him out of their bar, as he was trying to extract money from a worker.
"Police Inspector Praveen More of Borivli police station said, "Borkar is an active member of the Rajan gang, and Shinde is a bookie, with links to Rajan. Both were arrested, but Shinde has been granted anticipatory bail."
Borkar has six criminal cases pending against him, for crimes committed all across the city's suburbs.
Such a link had been found in the past, when Vinod Asrani, alias Vinod Chembur, a bookie, was arrested in connection with the murder of senior journalist J Dey, for allegedly provided financial support to the assailants.
