City rained out on Saturday; more today

Heavy rains that lashed the city on Saturday resulted in the metro coming to a near standstill with arterial transport services paralyzed for considerable periods of time during the day.

Railway services on Western, Central and Harbour lines were delayed with indefinite delays in the latter two. Visibility at the international and domestic airports reduced to less than 500 metres resulting in delayed flights. Some flights were diverted to Ahmedabad airport because of the closure of a runway due to a tire burst of an incoming Saudi Air flight from Jeddah.

Airline authorities cancelled the return journey and departures and landings at the international airport adding to the delay by around half an hour.

Water logging took place in low lying areas of Sion, Parel, Dadar, Santacruz, Kurla and Andheri. Traffic was slow moving on both the Eastern and Western Express highways.

Colaba received 102 mm of rainfall and Santacruz received 209 mm as of 8.30 pm on Saturday evening.
