Did coast guard foil another 26/11?

Pak vessel intercepted in Indian waters with three Pakistanis and three Bangladeshis on board amid intelligence that LeT was planning another sea-borne attack

In a major anti-terror initiative by the Coast Guard, a Pakistani vessel was intercepted at the Rann of Kutch on Saturday evening. On board the vessel Al Qassim were three Pakistani nationals and three Bangladeshis.

Coast Guard commandant Harish More said their partol vessel ICGS Samrat advanced in and intercepted the Pakistani vessel off Sir Creek, a 96 km strip of water in the Rann of Kutch marshlands, which separates Gujarat from Sindh in Pakistan.

"The captain of Al Qassim is a Pakistani and the vessel is registered in Karachi. The men on board are
being interrogated by the Intelligence Bureau and Coast Guard," said More.

Sources added, "This is a matter of serious concern in the wake of reports of terrorists planning to attack the seafront."

Terror threat

The arrest of the crew comes at a time when intelligence inputs indicate that the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) plans to repeat 26/11-like terror attacks using the seafront.

According to a June 26 report, dozens of central intelligence agencies have warned about the likelihood of LeT terrorists using the coastline to infiltrate trained persons, arms and ammunition.

More than 40 Coast Guard and Naval ships are patrolling the coastal area from Mandvi port in the north to Goa.

Additional Commissioner of Police R Padmanabhan said he was yet to be informed about the interception of Al Qassim.
