The Andheri-based Gujar family — the parents and their two daughters and a son — had boarded the private bus from their village Banghar in Satara. While the mother, Vaijanta Gujar (37), died on the spot, the others were injured and admitted into nearby hospitals.

The family had decided to stay in the village a little longer after the May 18 wedding of their daughter Komal. While the father, Manohar Gujar, who suffered minor injuries, and youngest son Akshay, who has a fractured arm, are under medical care in MGM-Kalamboli hospital, daughter Shaman (19) underwent a surgery for spine injury at Panacea Hospital in Panvel and Shubhangi (17) has been discharged from the hospital.

Manisha Khamkar, a relative of the family, said, “Even their cellphones got damaged in the accident. But the younger daughter remembered our number and gave it to the hospital, from where we received a call. This is very sad as the family’s financial condition is also not good. Manohar does not even have a permanent job.”
