August 19, 8.39 am, R&B singer Jay Sean tweeted, "Last nites show (Mumbai gig) was sooooo insane!!! Packed to the brim. Off to Pune now. See u there tonite!! Its gon be another mad one."u00a0

Clearly the international singing sensation couldn't have imagined what lay in store for him.

Crowds wait at the venue in Pune on Friday night. They were waiting for
Jay Sean to turn up but instead, cops showed up

The gig that was scheduled to take place at Hard Rock Caf ufffd (HRC) on August 19 was cancelled on the grounds of not having a proper license. The cops arrived at HRC at 8 pm. However, the over 700 people that had gathered outside the pub were told about the cancellation only at 10 pm.u00a0

A source in the artiste management team said, "We have been working on this event for two months. We are responsible for the artiste's needs, the venue is responsible for getting the recquired license. The gig went off smoothly in Mumbai, so we assumed the same for Pune."

But depending on an assumption doesn't help, right? To this he said, "At times a venue doesn't like interference in matters they are responsible for."

An official spokesperson of the event's sponsor Bacardi said, "The venue did not have adequate licenses. We respect the law and on finding out about the license issue, we apologised to the fans and called off the event."

Police Inspector Devidas Patil, who was at HRC with his team, said, "If a foreign artiste is performing in the country, it is mandatory to get the Foreign Artiste license from the Home Ministry, and only then the local ACP and DCP, can permit them to perform. In this case, the event organisers didn't get the Foreign Artiste license.

So giving them permission to go on with the event was not possible."

Jay Sean apologised to his fans on a social networking site saying, "To all my fans last night in Pune, I'm so sorry that I didn't get to put on the amazing show you all deserved. I hope that I can make it up to you at some point very soon!"
