Pradeep Rajbhar, one of the accused and an approver in the double murder case of artist Hema Upadhyay and her lawyer Haresh Bhambhani, blamed the police yesterday for forcing him to turn an approver and give a confessional statement.

When Pradeep was produced in Dindoshi Sessions court yesterday with all the other accused in the case, he told the court that he was pressured into giving a confessional statement.

His lawyer then filed an application, which said that cops kept forcing him into giving such a statement on the pretext of releasing him. “Police was pressurising me to give a false statement so that they can implicate innocent people in the case,” the application stated.

The application, further read, “Police gave Pradeep a written statement and asked him to depose before the magistrate and he did.”

Rajbhar, in his application, has also said that he never wanted to become an approver and the police forced him to give false statements. The court then asked the Crime Branch to file their reply on July 14.
