Jaitley praises Rajiv, criticises Rahul

The day the government shuns vote bank politics and changes its approach towards tackling terrorism, terror strikes would end on its own, believes Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Arun Jaitley.

At a BJP workshop on 'threat to national security', Jaitley, the leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha took potshots at Rahul Gandhi for his remarks on it not being possible to thwart all terror attacks.

He said, "I completely disagree with those who say all terror attacks cannot be stopped and we should learn to live with terror."

However, the leader praised former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi for introducing the Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act (TADA) to combat terrorism in Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir.

Jaitley also took the opportunity to take a dig at Congress' Digvijay Singh and said, "When they should go meet blast victims in the hospital, they visit families of the terrorists to express solidarity with them.

Take terrorism as a threat to national security and separate it from vote bank policy."

He added that the UPA government was sincere enough to make a strong law to curb incidents of communal violence, but it lacked the will to make a stringent law to fight terrorism.
