According to NRI coastal police, one person was killed, while another was seriously injured when a bike heading towards Belapur, collided with a car.

The cops have arrested the car driver, who had fled the spot after the accident.

According to the police, Ashraf Mehboob Subani Sheikh (19), who was riding the bike, died on the spot after the speeding vehicle met with a head-on collision with a Maruti Swift that was coming from Belapur and was taking a right turn toward Seawoods area.

Ayush Kanojia (18), who was riding pillion, has sustained grievous injuries.

Anubhav Bele, an eyewitness, said, "I was on my way to Vashi, when I witnessed the accident. When we rushed towards the victims to help them, their bodies were lying on the road in a pool of blood. We immediately took them to different hospitals. However, we were unable to trace the car."



u00a0"Ayush has been diagnosed with multiple fractures and we have shifted him to Fortis Hospital in Vashi. We are yet to check with him what exactly happened on Sunday night," said Ayush's father.

V R Patil, API from NRI coastal police station, said "We caught the car driver Sachin Patil, on Monday morning and registered an FIR against him under Sections 279, 304A, 337, 338 of the IPC. We produced him in the Belapur Court where he was granted bail. Further investigations are on."

Post-Sunday's incident, all the police station in the area have once again been issued strict instructions, asking them to take stringent action against drivers/riders flouting speed limits, informed a senior police official.
