Addressing the gathering, former chief justice Venkatachaliah said the late chief justice MC Chagla was a great nationalist for whom justice and liberty were abiding passions.

Former attorney general Soli Sorabjee described Chagla as the "embodiment of justice on the chair who dispensed justice with a smile".
Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court Swatanter Kumar said, "If the common man was asked to define or connote civil liberties and human rights, he would take the name of Justice M C Chagla."
