Fate of two flats in Oshiwara complex, valued at over Rs 1 crore, still uncertain

For the last eight years, Maharashtra Housing and Development Authority (MHADA) is struggling to dispose of two flats, worth over Rs 1 crore, in its posh Oshiwara complex. The flats 603 and 604 on the sixth floor of building 19 in MHADA's Oshiwara complex, are in the name of Shakuntala Bedi and her daughter Monica Bedi respectively.

"MHADA rejected my name from the list. I am no longer the owner of the property," said Monica, who was a contestant in the reality show Bigg Boss.

Bedi is currently living in a rented apartment in the suburbs. The then Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Meeran Borwankar confirmed that an inquiry had been initiated against the said property and a subsequent letter issued to MHADA in 2007.u00a0

A MHADA official said, the police letter states Bedi submitted bogus details about her education and place of birth in the affidavit submitted to MHADA at the time of buying the property. According to MHADA, they had received approximate Rs 8 lakh towards the cost of each flat, and the source of funds was also under the scanner.

Outstanding dues
A resident of the building said that the flats have been sealed for several years, and residents never bothered to inquire about the reasons. The property also has over u00a0Rs 5 lakh as society dues pending. Residents remember that there were dead pigeons inside the house, when it was last opened few years ago by MHADA officials. The officials had the house cleaned before sealing it.u00a0
