Mumbai: The BEST committee on Thursday approved the fare hikes for the next year. There will be two bus fare hikes, one in February and another in April.
The fare hike in February was due since earlier this year and was postponed for next year. While the April fare hike is a fresh proposal that was put forth by the BEST administration.
Earlier this February, the Shiv Sena led BMC approved Rs 150 crore as grant to the BEST that led to the postponement of fare hike by a year. On the other hand, the BEST has demanded another such aid of Rs 150 crore from BMC to avoid the immediate hike in April 2015.
In February 2015 there will be Re 1 hike in basic ticket fare taking it to Rs 7. Corresponding slabs too have been prepared depending on the kilometer travelled. In April 2015 another hike of Re 1 will take place.
