The body was recovered from a manhole in Shivaji Nagar, Asalfa, on March 19. The police believe that the deceased was in his mid-30s, and have come up with five sketches which they are planning to circulate around to ascertain the man’s identity.
Senior Inspector Vasant, Patil from Ghatkopar police station, said, “The body was highly decomposed when we found it, so we were unable to find out whether he was sexually abused before being dumped into the manhole. Besides, the killer covered the manhole after dumping the body due to which it took a while for it to get spotted.
Since we don’t know how the deceased looked like, we have come up with five different sketches hoping that identification of at least one would lead us to his friends or family. To ascertain the dead man’s identity, we have showed the pictures across Asalfa and even aired advertisements on local cable channels.”
A case has been registered under Sections 302 (murder) and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence, or giving false information to screen offender) of the Indian Penal Code.
